hey guys i was wondering if its possible to swap out the old sealed beams from my car and get a conversion kit for it to use halogen bulbs. i know were to get the housing for the bulbs to replace the beams but im guessing i need some sort of adaptor for the bulbs to plug in. or even maybe some wire cutting to retrofit a bulb plug on there. or is there a bublb that uses the same plug as the beams. i havent looked at the plug for the lights yet so i dont know what they look like.

No cutting or modification needed, just stay away from the cheap ebay ones and get either Autopal or Hella

EDIT: Oops Sorry didnt notice you had a 84

Good luck finding nice brand name ones for our cars. Hella doesn't make any that fit the 4656 headlights, so that option is out. I think about your only option is to buy a set from eBay and hope to god they don't suck. I bought a set from eBay a few years ago and they're still holding up. The beam pattern that they shine isn't all that great, but it's fine for around town low-beam driving.

After I picked those up, I got a set for my high-beams. After about 3 days in my car, the lenses cracked. So I bought another set. About two months those cracked. So I thought I'd give it one last try, since my original ones were still holding up. I figured they couldn't ALL be crap...

The lenses FELL OFF of the housings when I took them out of the box. It looked like they had been hot glued onto the housings. Just crap.

So currently for my low beams, I'm running the eBay conversions, and some sweet ass Silverstar sealed beams for the highs.

These claim to be what you're looking for, hella too. http://www.rallylights.com/hella/165mm_lo.asp. Give him a call, he should be able to help you out. I forget the guys name but I've dealt with them before.

Oh dood. WTF. I don't know how much time I've spent websurfing looking for Hella conversions! I guess it's been a while since I last looked, but I've spent hours... Thats why I wound up settling for the eBay CRAP. That rocks! Thanks.

I'm fairly certain that I've posted that link here before. I don't remember when, but I've been hanging on to it for years. I was going to get a set for my 85 back when I was daily driving it but never did.
