ok I just read another thread on carb problems with a second generation carb,go to www.importcarbs.com I have talked to this guy on the phone,I know people who have bought carbs from him, he knows his stuff,and he's reasonable as far as prices. the cvcc carbs are difficult to rebuild and tune,especially since they need some special tools,and you are talking about a complete carb attached to another carb. check out his site,maby it will help some people on here. anyone who lives in the atlanta area,also check out Marietta carburator specialists. if you guys at 2 geez have a link section,please put this in your links.:)

Good info. because these carbs. are definitely tricky as all get out. And people with knowledge of carbs. and how to properly rebuild them are few and far between anymore.

Well following my '82 failing its emmisions test a while back, the local garage mucked about with the carb settings to make it pass & its never run right since.

I booked the car in with Honda for a new timing belt & asked then to check the settings, which after giving the car a going over, they advised me it could run into a big bill. So with that in mind I said I'd sort it myself.

To cut a long story short the car made it a mile after leaving Honda before it broke down & that was that - they must have tried to adjust it without success I'm thinking. The recovery guy adjusted the carb settings for a good while before giving up & diagnosed a possible diaphragm failure or something along those lines. He recovered the car home & tonight I took the carb off & I'll strip it down tonight/tomorrow to see whats up.

The only diaphragm I know of, is for the accelerator pump ? Blocked jets could also produce the same symptoms which are - engine idles fine but dies if revs increased normally. If revs increased gradually all is fine & at fast running all is fine. Fuel consumption is up but the emmisions test guy mucked everything up & the mixture was far too rich.

Anyway I'm gonna take the carb to bits, clean it up (its mucky) & then see whats what & get the jets cleaned out. Theres a carb place not too far from me who could probably do an ultrasonic clean on them I believe.

I've stripped & rebuilt a Keihin of sorts before so its not too much of a mystery & I've got a few spare carbs lying about so we'll see how I get on with it. I've got a gasket set on order too.

I took my Keihin apart on my '84 Accord a few yrs ago to try and fix a flat spot. It only came with a few orings and a gasket (from dealer).

I bent the powervalve in process (don't ask) and subsequently failed emissions test (high CO) the next yr. I took it apart to try and straighten the powervalve but no joy ... in fact it increased my CO another 1% to 3.5%!! :thumbdn:

Too bad, as it has effectively killed the car's usefullness.
