That thing is sweet. I'm not a fan of the gray exterior on the LX's, but it does look good! The bidder may not be legit., but $2900 isn't terribly ridiculous for that car with those miles. It's on the high end to be sure, though. What caught me is the rims. Those center caps and trim rings came on the base Accords in 84. In 85, I know ALL the 3 doors went to the hubcaps, not sure about the sedan and we all know the se-i got alloys. In 1984, the 3 door LX's got the hubcaps and the DX model got the caps/trim rings. It always surprises me how many cherry old fart cars with low mileages have a different set of rims than came on the car. WTF? Why were the rims changed out is a question I always find myself asking. I mean if an old couple drives it, why would there ever be any reason to switch rims? Not like it's an upgrade and old people always keep things stock. It's definitely an LX.
Kinda reminds me of my one owner, old lady car I bought on ebay. He had it as an LX and the taillight says "LX" on it. I emailed the seller and showed him the VIN construction and explained why it was NOT an LX trim. He conceeded the fact and said someone put the taillight on there. How convenient. But, I carfaxed it and it looked to be a 1 owner. Plus, it had a grip of AAA stickers on it and a list in the ashtray (handwritten in old lady writing) that said stuff like "sweep garage, bake cake, drop off food at Humane Society..." so I really think it was an older lady and a 1 owner cherry. I just wished the lot who sold it on consignment would have just left the carb. and the AC alone for me to deal with.

^^^ Man that is crazy. I didn't even notice that it was an LX. I saw those wheels and just instantly assumed it was the base model. That's the kinda stuff that I find crazy too. What prompted the owner to swap the wheels like that? Just like that blue 1gee hatch with the crazy reupholstered rear panels...

I agree with offthehook. I see them bidders with the **** in the name all the time. I believe there is a problem or scam with what is going on. I haven't figured it out yet, but it is suspicious.

Maybe, but not old farts from Florida. Plus, the LX had the same rims as the base, just with plastic hubcaps and no trim rings or center caps. It's weird how Honda tried to fool people back then by using the same rim, just a plastic wheelcover or some trim rings and center caps. I think the LX's got better tires from the factory when brand new as well. Still, they were all 13" rims even. Like any of the crap would fly these days.

Do tell how they work. Is it something the seller does? Look at the bid history people and you can tell this was a scam because of all the bidders with **** in their userid. I'm just wondering who's behind it all! That winner dude musta really wanted that car; looks like he could have had it way cheaper if it weren't for the shill bidders.

offthahook, I can't tell you how they work. But I can tell you that from my experience from ebay, that they DO some how work for ebay. I don't have proof of it, but I can say something is going on with it on ebays side. I didn't fall of the turnip truck yesterday & been watching ebay for a long time. I'm going to watch one that wins with the asterick in their name & ask the seller if they pay up. I'll keep you posted.
I think they are shill bidders on ebays side. Has something to do with their profit by them.

I just looked at some bid histories of the "losers" in that auction. Looks like ebay is hiding the losers true identities with the *** in the userid's. The winner's true ID is shown, however. I'm sure it's to keep the second chance and non ebay transactions in check. I've been on ebay forever and noticed some bidders having *** in their names and low feedbacks. But, in ebay's defense, this note was posted when I clicked on the bid history:
"eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed for higher-priced items. To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in bid history. Other members will see anonymous names."

Well, here's what I think about the *** issue. Mind you this happened long before they started doing this.
I went on eBay and put in a bunch of $250 bids in on some Sharp Zaurus Linux PDAs. They were easily worth $550-600. I thought if there is SOME chance someone misses these, I'll pay $250 for one. I lost all the auctions, and they all went for $500+.
About a week after I lost all the auctions, I got a RANDOM e-mail from a guy asking me if I wanted to buy a Zaurus for $250, SHIPPED! Well, of course I was like FUCK YEAH. If it's stolen, someone else is going to get it for the crack dealer price, so why not me? I was sketchy, and he agreed to ship me the device BEFORE I paid to ensure I felt okay with the deal.
So the damn thing came in the mail, and I sent the $250. Done deal. Well, of course, fuckin eBay didn't get their cut of the stolen goods. So while they're making it sound like they're doing it for buyer protection, it's REALLY done so that people can't contact losing bidders and make transactions outside eBay.
When someone bids $400 on something and loses the auction for $401, and some random e-mail comes in to buy it at $390, don't you think they'd do it in a heartbeat? Especially if they don't have to pay eBay fees?
