well it's wrecked
this morning about 20 min ago my 82 got wrecked. we got about an 1 inch of snow last night & this morning all the roads in my area (6,000+ev) are frozen & lots of black ice around. I was going about 10 mph with lite breaking as I approach a turn on a one lane winding road. well a 4 tires locked up on me & I slid right into a foot tall curb someone put up (for reasons like this) to keep cars from sliding into there yard. well the front end is trashed. the passenger side fender is bowed, the door wont open, the hood is bowed up & wont close completely. I cant even describe the damage to the passenger side wheel/knuckle/strut/ & sub-frame. the car still drivable, cause I drove it the 1/2 mile from where this happen back home. but Im so upset about all this. I just recently got the motor rebuilt & she was running awesome. if any one wants or needs a good motor or trans let me know. I do a damage assessment later today & get pics for all ya to see. man this sucks.

Dude that sucks ass!!!
![]() You should get another one that is in mint shape, but needs an engine. Swap out your engine into it. Keep it alive.

Re: well it's wrecked
The main thing is that you and your family are OK. We love our cars, but they are mechanical objects and not near as important as flesh and blood. I agree with 2nd gen guy, part out the car and commence a search for another.

Re: well it's wrecked
never take your car out in this weather, they are getting too rare, wait for nice weather to enjoy them. if you have to drive in the winter, get a beater civic, they are a dime a dozen and are everywhere.

Re: well it's wrecked
sorry no pics yet, I took them with my blackberry & it got stolen over the holiday weekend. so once I get a new one I'll take them again. I still haven't figured out what to do with this car. I was thinking about dropping the EK1 into the 84 for now so I'll have a car to drive again. I'm pretty positive It'll drop right in fine, but I did get a 86 prelude 2.0SI with a dead cylinder for my new DD (Xmas to myself). Its getting the motor rebuilt in about a week or two. sorry about the over-due update. its been crazy lately.

Re: well it's wrecked
It's close to dropping in, but won't quite. Ask Ichiban about his swapping an A20 into his 82 Accord. That's basically the reverse swap.

Re: well it's wrecked
I want to see pictures, and am very curios to get a full assessment. A similar incident befell my car and I a few years back, but it was mud, not ice, and it was while I was pulling into my own driveway. My accord slammed into a 740 Turbo volvo, crumpled the front end and messed up the hood. However, once I took off the outer body pieces there was only minor damage to the actual frame. My utter devastation turned into hope, as I realized that it was totally fixable. A week later or so stuff_ninja and I took the car, plus the new parts from pick 'n pull, to the mall here, and did the rebuild in their parking garage! The guards came and hassled us, but I told them that I just got hit in their intersection on needed some time to get my headlights working again. Anyhow, looks fine now, there is still a tiny gap on the front bumper, but the frame needs to be straighted to fix that, I think. I guess it could be the bumper core is actually a little bent too, I should have replaced that.
By the way, it rains here a lot, thus the mud. Plus, I had no garage of mine own to work in at the time. AND, the volvo had no damage what-so-ever :'( damn Turbo brix

Re: well it's wrecked
Quote:
I had similar damage to my '82 LX hatch....my own stupid fault, actually. Was changing a flat tire in my driveway, in the middle of putting the spare on I got a real bad headache and had to go lay down inside. Later that night I took the car out (forgetting that I never tightened the lug nuts down!!), front end starts shaking really bad around a turn...LF wheel comes off, horrible noises, sparks flying everywhere, Honda barrels out of control and ends up launched over a big ass curb. I got really frustrated, took all of my shit out of it and left it there....figured let the cops just take this thing and crush it (I had bought a new car the week before anyway and the Accord was a REAL beater). The LF fender was totally smashed and bent upwards like a wing, the strut/brakes/LF suspension looked all sorts of mangled and raped to shit, the driver's side door wouldn't open, the spare tire I had just put on a few hours earlier was about 50 yards down the road, the oil pan/subframe/etc. had been dragged against asphalt and up and over a concrete curb at 40MPH.....it was a sorry sight. Anyway, about a month later I get a thing in the mail from an impound yard saying that they have my car and if I don't come get it in XXX days I was gonna have to pay some ludicrous sum of money. So I went up there and checked it out, figuring this was gonna be another whole PITA having to get it towed out, taken to the crusher, blah blah blah....but once I could take a good look in the daylight, everything out in the open, it really didn't look bad at all! Aside from the body damage to the LF fender, the brake rotor was just a little eaten up and there were a bunch of scratches on the control arms/subframe....but it all looked pretty straight. I grabbed another spare wheel/tire, threw it on, jump started that sucker and drove it home! I got a new rotor, had an alignment done and hammered the fender back into place as best I could....it was like nothing ever happened. I drove that car for another 6 months or so just for errands around town and for brief periods while I was doing work on my "new" car (a T-Bird TC) trying to make it faster. I would have kept it even longer, but the clutch was pretty much totally shot (original, something like 350k miles on it), and I wasn't gonna put any more money into it since the body was rotted through in so many spots, even before my little mishap. I gave it to one of my friends who wanted to gut it, stick a cage in it and rally it. It hung around for another 7 years after that! Last I heard, someone from out of town had bought it for parts and it dropped off my radar. Sorry for the overly long, detailed story....but I'm just tryin' to stay optimistic and give you some hope! ![]() I agree with 2ndGenGuy, not worth trying to fit the EK1 into an 84-85 chassis. It'd be infinitely easier (and yield more HP) to just grab a junkyard A20. If the '82 really is hopeless, you can always hang onto the freshly rebuilt motor until another home for it comes along, or sell it to one of the 1g/2g Civic guys. They're always looking for solid EK1s, that's like the "big block" motor for those cars haha. Nice job getting the 2g Prelude. I had one of those too (DX model, though) and it was a lot of fun. Compared to 2g Accords, they handle like friggen F1 cars. You got any pics/threads on here of the Accord (and EK1 build) pre-accident? I don't stop by these forums that often but I always like checking out the 82-83 models.....they're so rare where I live (New York) nowadays. If I even see ONE a year, that's a lot!

Re: well it's wrecked
hey guys good news ! I finally got her back on the road. like you guys said, it wasn't that bad. all the body panels got shifted pretty good & a little tweaked underneath. but she was put back on her own weight this past weekend. I've been working on her here & their, whenever I could get some time. I have three jobs so I only get about 4 hours of sleep a day so its pretty hard to get time for her or myself. but SHE'S BACK & I'm so HAPPY
!!!!!!!!!!!! I've missed my little speed racer (a fresh EK1 is pretty fast). the prelude motor was toast. it dropped a valve & cracked the block so it still hasn't been fixed but I still have it. I been driving a beat to shit Toyota pickup I got for free for the time being. It's got 478k on it & still runs great ! people in the back woods are so nice when someone needs some help. Thank you Andrea for your kind donation to my family. it helped so much. but anyways I just want to let you guys know that & I haven't forgotten about you guys. the last things to do I get an alignment & put the grille & bumper back on. I'll let you know when she's all fixed up & done. I don't get much time for anything any more so it might be a little bit.

Re: well it's wrecked
Damn man! 4 hours a night! Hope you're not stretching yourself too thin man. I couldn't do it, that's way too little sleep for me. You're very dedicated though!
Glad to hear it's back on the road! Don't forget PICS!!
