View Full Version : Loose timing belt

What is the correct tension of the timing belt - by feeling?
I checked mine by taking the upper cover off - it looks great,
no cracks, dry, no dislocations off the pulley, 4 years old
and has 55,000 miles on it. Wanna keep it 10,000 miles more.
But it feels loose somewhat - the parts between pulleys are
not very tight. It does not slip, of course, and the teeth are fine.
I mean - this belt is not supposed to be readjusted periodically? -
this is as much work as putting in a new belt!
So - is it normal or acceptable? The ones I encountered on junk
yards are much tighter.

U may tighten a bit, after all only u know if it's too loose. It's supposed to look tighter on the front of the car side cuz the crankshaft is pulling that side.
...but to tighter belt in not good either:
