DEXTER: 1989 Aerodeck

This is Dexter, my Monterey Green 1989 Aerodeck 2.0 EXi with manual gearbox. I bought him three months ago as a totally standard car with just under 33,000 miles under his belt.

He arrived on a wet and miserable February day on the back of a trailer after a six hour road trip.

Then settled on the drive with my other old 'Deck.

Rain stopped play for many weeks so Dexter was pushed into the garage.

But now the spring is here I've managed to get a few jobs done. Lowered with 15" MIM 2800 rims, full service, new radiator, cambelt, stereo, speakers and more.

I'm not planning to go crazy with the car, just a few tasteful mods then just enjoy cruising.

Thanks. I was lucky that it was a very good car when I bought it so it's not taken too much work to get it like this. I'm sick of trying to turn basket cases into something better. I thought it was time to buy a decent car and just enjoy driving it instead of it permanently being 'a work in progress'.

In a bit ruffer condition, but still.

Try to get your hands on the front lip of a Volvo 7/9-series GLT.
Looks really good on the Aerodeck^^

Wow, I seriously need to do this to my car... Makes it look so much better. And probably is more fun to work on because you won't get as dirty now. :p

It's definitely much nicer working in a clean engine bay. A lot of people don't like overly clean bays but I like mine to be as clean as the outside and the interior.

Both are road legal.
Debating on which car I should restore.
The '86 got a better body (rust and paint wise) but the '89 has got the injected engine.
I'll see if i could snap a pic today.

Why not put the EFi engine in the '86 car? Or do you want to stick with originality?

Was planning to do that. Have to see if I got enough time during the summer holiday.

I found the photos. A bit hard to see as it's dark under the front bumper but seems to be a good look.

It's not a perfect fit. But with some minor mods it looks really nice :)

That's a pretty good looking lip. Looks like it built by Honda to go there from the beginning.

We're really lucky to have got the Aerodeck over here. So many great Japanese cars are JDM only but the Deck is one of the good ones that made it out. :)
