I've read that the B20B/Z block has weak cylinder liners. I'm thinking the best bet may be a high CR GSR block (B18C1), with a Type-R(B18C5) head. But I could be wrong.

yeah but dont the newer b series engines (b16 for sure) need a block guard to reinforce the cylinder liners for a built up engine?

The race team that I'm with has sworn off all the Cr-Vtec conversions because of the weak cylinder walls. Everytime a head is removed after a couple race meets (3 seperate cars-2 circuit racing one drag)...the cylinders are scorched and cracked. I guess the block can't handle the high rpm...one car in particular turns over 9500rpm. There's no question about the power that it makes though...it's awesome. I remember one Cr-Vtec (4 door civic)project from the garage walking away from an S2000 and an Evolution 5 at the tracks. He ran a best of 13.6 without slicks or nitrous.

yeah but who needs to turn 9500 rpm, thats alot... 8000-8250 should be sufficient shouldnt it?

What about ductile iron resleeve? Would that lengthen the life of the engine by a lot or would the new sleeves wear out quickly too?
