Ok, so I was thinking that since the LX-i block has a higher compression rating along with different (stronger?) rods/pistons then the Carb. why not try a little mix 'n match? First of all, is that true that the LX-i has better internals then the Carb?

If so, why not take the entire block/head from and LX-i and plop it into my DX hatch along with a Dual DCOE conversion? Would I benefit from the LX-i donor block? Would there be any noticible performance gain/loss?

...just throwing out some thoughts.

so in fact it IS a good idea?

The head, block, crank, and rods are the same. The LXi pistons give slightly higher compression and the cam is a little different (I'm not sure how). Otherwise the two engines are identical.

so it is a pistons that make compression higher.
on the EFI cam, it has higher lift for intake and exhaust valves.
i am not sure about other specs, because no one on this board knows them.
but i will try putting EFI cam into carb engine, and run it. and see what kind improvements i will get.

I'm guessing, but you might run into problems with higher compression. You may have to run premium gas in order to avoid pinging. I suspect the injection setup better avoids the problem because it has electronic sensors that help it to avoid the issues. The fuel mixture is more accurate etc.

Anyone else out there know more about this than I do?

yeah like the last post said, you might run into problems, like you might have to retard your timing or richen your mixture just a little, who knows... time to experiment

I never ran a carb block so I don't know how much you're going to gain from the higher compression. Its only like .4:1 more compression so thats not going to make a big diference. I've always run mine with a cam and advanced timing so I keep 93 in there, but I have used 89 in a pinch with out problems. (how the hell can you people in conneticut and new york stand to pay that much for gas). I remember funstick (sean or what ever he wants to be called now :p) was running a efi cam in his before he did the gm efi conversion. I believe that it made a slight diference.

I just paid $1.81 for 93 Octane at the Mobil station down the street from work! Yeah it hurts just a bit. Oh well, since I got the car I've been running on 89 Octane, but just recently within the last few months, all I've been fillin' her with is 93. ...and maybe I'm just crazy, but all she's ever drank was Mobil gas with the occassional Exon.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna try and get my hands on a set of LX-i pistons, and a cam out of an LX-i then get a grind from that as a base rather then the carb cam.

man those prices are unreal. I'm in TN and price for 93 $1.51. I never get 93 though. I always get mid grade that's about $1.43.

the highest here at any given time for 89oct was $0.80/Litre

i don't kow what that translates into $US/Gallon but its hella expensive

average price is 65-70cents/Litre

85 octane? Do you live in the mountains? I've only seen it that low at high altitudes.
