it could be bad for your car. search for other posts on it and you can find out why. it could cause a pinging.

As to where to get it, a gas station. What does it cost, more than regular.

It won't help unless you have either advanced timing (advanced pretty far), a turbo, or nitrous. Octane is the ability for the gas to resist detonation, so the higher the octane, the less likely it is to detonate. You can get somewhat high octane gas at gas stations, anything past that and you either need race gas or an octane booster (little bottle you add to your gas tank).

octane booster adds resistance to detenation.

have u ever been to a gas station, and seen the 3 prices.. you use the cheap stuff now, thats 87 octane. if you buy the expensive gas, its 92 octane. i am flushing a few tanks of 92 into my car, and then i am gonna try advancing the timing a tad! :)

btw it wont help a lot... :) just maybe noticable difference though.

DO NOT buy octane booster! It is NOT worth the money. On the bottle it will say something like "increases octane 5 points" or something like that. say you starded out with 87 octane and added the octane booster it would only increase your octane to 87.5 and NOT to 92 octane like you would think.

AHHHH I dont know how many times I have replyed to this same question!!!! Look man... Octane is like pmip said resistence of detonation. Detonation is caused by gas being so compressed that it pre-ignites in the cylindar before the spark. It wont make a damn bit of difference in our cars man. We don not have high compression ratios. You are wasting your money. Use a good 89 octane and you should be fine...

Yeah totally unless youre running some major engine mods, or your pinging or somthing, you really dont need anything over 87 octane. Personally, I think these cars run noticeably smoother with 89 octane, but 92 doesnt really improve on the smoothness... Just my 2cents

OMG I THINK I FOUND MY PROBLEM MAYBE IT IS THIS

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting.

thats the site 2old_honda told me to go to, i think its kind of a knocking/tapping sound from under the valve cover and its constant and everything, i wonder if thats the problem? even tho there is no problem xcept it sounds like shit...

Like the mechanic said you need a valve lash. Check your manual, it's simple enough for you to do it yourself.

The minimum octane over here is 95. My car idles bad with that stuff, but better with 98 or 99 octane. I have advanced timing..

youre lucky. but we pay a lot less for gas! :) so i guess its fair! hehe...

ya some gas stations in socal have 110 in the pump... just fill her up and go... to the track that is... its just stupid to fill a street car up on that... but I mentioned that already..... high compression = pre-detonation ........ 3geez=not high compression
