just a minor question but i have to know. What kind of gas does an LXi take? I ask because i got my car with a 100,000 miles on it from my neighbor for a dollar and he told me that it took 'super' gas so i want to just check and make sure im not wasting cash. Plus im too lazy to look in the manual :)

I used to pump 91, but now I've downgraded to 89 because I can't afford to pay too much for gas. However, my brother (the previous owner), suggested a mixture of 89 and 91 simultaneously.

as far as I know you can use anything 87 or over but I like to use 89

It all depends on your compression ratio.
High compression ratios require higher octane and it will not I repeat WILL NOT increase HP. If your engine starts knocking then put a higher octane rating fuel in your car. Your service manual will recommend an octane rating for your vehicle.
