Anyone know the production numbers for auto-vs-manual trans in the 3-geez's? It seems like every one I look at is an auto. My '87 is manual but just about all others I lookat are auto's. A local loan company had a '89 lx 4-door out front for sale, pretty solid body, good paint, inside was spotless, all for $ 1400 but what was it, a damn automatic. Anyone else seem to notice this?

I have one of each and my first accord was a 5spd and the auto soon to be 5spd(spring). I do think there were more automatics but i have never seen a break down on the actual numbers. I do see a lot of automatics especially when i was looking to buy my second accord coupe.

Damn, Jim, just buy another one! I know if you look for a while you could get a steal on one someplace... you'll just have to compromise looks, probably.

I have a manual. I believe there are more auto's than manuals and like everyone else, I've seen more auto's than manuals.

Mines a manual too. It does seem like you see alot more autos than manuals. Funny thing is though, the manual was standard equipment, while the auto was optional (that was the one option available for the 3g). Guess everybody wanted the auto :(

You could change an auto to a manual if you wanted, the pedal assemble would bolt right in and all of the bolt hole are there. You would just need a doner car . They were all set up for manuals at the factory. Change the tranny out and put in a flywheel instead of a flexplate and torque converter. and I think there is some bs on the distributor. Oh, you also need the manual transmission carb or at least the dashpot off the manual. This keeps the throttle from closing too fast when you change gears.

I've seen tons more manuals than auto 3g's. I can only recall seeing two auto 3g's ever. I have a manual, by the way. Manual is way more fun, better for racing/fuel economy/reliability/replacment.

i've seen way more autos. I agree on the fun factor of the sticks. the autos are nice when you're stuck in traffic, but i'd never give up my manual.

I got a five speed and i couldn't see driving anything else! Makes me feel like i'm racing or something, also it breaks up the boredom of everyday driving.

Five speed minus one, here. :)

Fifth works like neutral. :(

I wouldn't drive anything but a manual. My old car was an auto and I hated it. Ever since I drive my friend's 93 Prelude w/VTEC (now wrecked), I wouldn't accept anything less than a manual. And, let me say, 93 Prelude's are a blast to drive. I couldn't imagine having that much power or manueverability in a 3g.

I'm in the same boat as Rob, but turn the clock ahead a few months. My beater is a native 5spd., but the hatch underwent "The Operation" a few months back, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
