The backing is made out of cardboard, and i bought black fabric at walmart for it. I stretched it over the cardboard.

All of the things that are shiny black were apinted with black spray paint and the carpet piece was also spray painted

Hey! Niiiiiiiiice!

I'd use something else than cardboard... what if u spill something and then it gets on the cardboard and makes it soft?

All in all it took about a day because the painting takes the longest

fabric must of been easier than vinyl.it took forever to get the white vinyl to sit right.Watch out if you did use spray paint to die the carpet. It flakes out!!! i learned that the hard way! plasticoat carpet die works the best

You wal-marted the door panels? Ouch. in a month or so that black fabric will turn a dull faded gray color. You have to use an automotive grade upostery material for that. It costs a lot more, but it has uv inhibitors to keep it from fading. plus it's a lot more durable. I recovered the panel on my hatch cover with walmart crap and now it looks like sh--. Thank god I used good material on the rest.
