Ever Dyno tested your A20? What were your results and what mods did you have at the time.

At the time I had my A20a3 with intake, obx muffler, full MSD ingnition(6a box, Blaster SS coil, MSD 8.8 wires)
The motor has 163,000 miles on it....Well abused.

Dyno Results:
95.9 HP at the wheels @5200 RPM's
111.3 ft-lbs of torque @3000 RPM's

wow... thats good to know... maybe taking this car up to 6000 is pointless afterall.. i have headers, which definetly added top end power, but i am thinking redline might still be too far!

The HP decrease was gradual until 6500 then it did a big drop off.

How much does it cost to get ur car tested??

BensAccordLxi
12-12-2002, 04:59 PM
I got it for free but I can get rates like $50 an hour. That is pretty much as many runs as you can get in an hour for $50

wow, seriously beleivable dyno results. i would guess i'm down at like 89-90. oh well. those aren't bad numbers you got, i would say. considering the milage and (assumed) condition.

BensAccordLxi

It's in great condition. I just drive it like I stole it! lol It's even better with the B16a. I'll have to get it Dyno tested with the B16 in it.

I am so jealous of this...I really wish I had a dyno that I can hse. This seat of the pants B.S is just not enough, I need some actual figures...Arrrgh.

I'll get the graph scanned this weekend and have it posted in this thread. Any one ever near Tucson AZ, let me know and I get you some Dyno time for cheap.

I'd be interested in a dyno run. What part of town?

I got it done at Apex Motorsports. Speedway and Swan. Let me know when you want to get it done and I'll see how much it will cost.

whoa thats not good. if you take 98 stock hp (carb) and determine the hp at the wheels it adds up to be 83 at the wheels (5speed) and 78 at the wheels (auto) if you have efi thats even worse. cuz a carb as the figures show have more hp. something is definetly wrong.

How much notice would you need? I'll probably have time later next week. Post or PM the cost when you get a chance. When I called a few months ago they wanted $60. Since I'm mostly just curious, not planning a bunch of engine mods, $60 was more than I was willing to pay. Hopefully It'll be less this time.

my car is PFI. what the hell is wrong with it?? do you think it is because of the high KM the engine has done??

very well could be KAOS RACING. high mileage takes a tole on ur power. i have only about 88000 miles on mine. when i have let people use my car, they usually say, wow this has pretty good pick up. dont know y i would have good speed pick up with under 100 hp. the weird thing is, i have drivin other cars, said to have more hp than mine, and they seem to be alot slower. i mean like i drove my neon after driving the 3gee, and i realy noticed how much quicker the accord is. also i have drove my friends car and it feels slower.

That seems way too low. Your Australian dyno doesn't output in KW does it? That would mean you were more like 75 HP. What rpm was the max HP. How was the torque curve?

Toby
12-15-2002, 05:14 PM
it was a big dyno day at the local dyno shop and they where anouncing all the power out puts and they said 57HP, they did not have time to print out all the dyno results but i will pick it up during the week. i found it wierd that they where saying HP because every in australia is in KW.

something is not normal, Y dynoed 87 hp at the wheels with timing retarded all the way baxk (I was using the carbed bracket on my EFI distributor)

I also had 16 inch wheels which grinds some HP too.

i would cry if my car is below 100 hp at the wheels. an di know it probably is. i'm scared to get dynoed now because i dont want to see those low results.

The mods I gad on the car when I ran it on the Dyno was Weapon R intake, OBX muffler, no resinator, MSD wires, MSD 6a box, and MSD blaster ss coil.

When I drove this car before I bought it, and before it ran the rebuilt engine, and how my car performs now, is a big difference.

Before: A20A3 with 240,000 miles
Now: Totally Rebuilt BT, 70,000 miles

Im tempted to go get a dyno and see how badly it actually sucks.

so are you dissapointed in it now, or before?

lol, you can see on the dyno graph that I had NO power gains after 4500 rpm.... 2000 RPM lost down the toilet!!!

I may get it dyno tested this spring since I solved all the problems it has. I should have more....

Anyway, it's better than stock. With my 16 inch wheels, I reached the stock power rating at around 4700 :) instead of 5500

The A20 just doesn't seem to make much power after 4,500-5,000 RPM's

I'm pretty sure if you have over 100,000 miles on it it's gonna be pretty low. New, the car only had around 105 at the wheels for an LX-i

Maybe the accords seem quicker because of the gear ratios. I dont know what they are but, I do know I can do 0-60 in 8 seconds! thats as fast as my mommy's 96 240sx. I even raced a 96 mustang GT and we were side by side, that was after the first 100 feet (that i was ahead)... if you dont believe me, we got it on video.

oh, and maybe your neon feels slow because IT IS SLOW! haha, nah my friend has a neon, it's aight. r/t's are tight though.

Let's see the video of that race. I'd like to see a 3rd gen race a Mustang GT.

Oh dont get me wrong, I am not dissapointed in it now! It is quite zippy, but Im sure I would get low dyno results just like everyone else. I'll get the thing dyno tested right before I swap it, then I can have really impressive before and after dyno results. But until that day comes, ignorance is bliss

well are the ratings for our cars from Honda at the wheels or the flywheel? if they are at the flywheel than all of our cars are probably below 100hp. didn't somebody say (i think justanothermike) that they dynoed a stock Civic Si and only 127 at the wheels?

hey carotman, was that dyno test after the efi conversion and yoru Dc header and ur muffler or was it before on your carb?

carotman
12-18-2002, 09:07 PM
it was after the efi conversion, but like I said, I was using the carbed distributor bracket, (which it not good at all, since the most advance I could give was still retarded timing lol)

I did have the DC header tough.
