I need to buy a feeler gauge to adjust my valves. they have two kinds- one that is angled and one that is strait. Will I need the angled one to reach? or will the flat one work?

make sure you follow what your the underside of your hood says. not the haynes or chiltons manual. i found this out after i used the how to. the underside of the hood is the correct one look at that first. it shows the correct gauge sizes for intake and exhuast. and be prepared to do this for a few hours. at least 2. cuz you might need to readjust sometimes.

Just a tip. Do it with plugs out. And always double check the adjusting nuts for tightness then turn engine over with a wrench while double checking that all rockers have play....nothing tight on complete revolution....tigher valves are worse then loose ones.do all this after all valves have been adjusted.

why do you have to have the plugs out. i did mine without the plugs out.

As you turn engine over with plugs in you build up compression in a cylinder that may hinder dialing the spot for cam/crank postion.

yeah tell me about it i kept missing the cylinder points so i had to turn it again. gave me bitch of a work out though. :D

And the engine on the 3G's is rotated counter-clockwise when turning the engine to adjust valves. If you leave the plugs in, you are now working against all of that engine compression and since you're going CC, you run the risk of loosening the crankshaft bolt.

It happens, especially if the timing belt was changed and the crank bolt was not set at 125 ft. lbs during installation.

125 ft lbs = max setting on my IR 1/2" Impact Gun for 5 seconds :D

BTW prepare a gasket maker tube or a valve cover gasket , because you may find it in a bad condition which will cause oil leak
