I have an auto.... although i would like to drive a stick. sometimes when i come up to a stop light a downshit into D3 instead of leaving it in D4 and braking. does this damage the tranny or not? i think it is fun to do but i dont know if i should with an auto.
thanks in adnance

i do that all the time.... i will put it into 2 when im going 40 if i need to stop fast ...the rpms only go to like 3500 and the car slows down fast ...saves the brakes .... plus the exhaust sounds nice when you downshift ...
A 5 speed is the way to go...mine been good to me since I bought it brand new...lol

acually i like driving my automatic more in the winter..... my 5spd is for summer
I don't mind my auto in the snow and when I get fast food, but other than that, I really wish I had a 5spd.

i don't know if it messes up the car or not. i used to do that and after awhile, my car started to act all weird. it was a long time ago, so i forgot the details.
but in perspective, i would rather change my brakes then change my tranny if something does go wrong.

5spds suck in traffic jams too
when I used to switch to my 86 dx auto, I would freguently find myself reaching for a manual stick...whups...lol...it was nice though not having to shift. May it rest in peace. I had a head on collision and came out of it w/o a scratch. I was hit by Monte Carlo.

I know they suck, but when driving, one should be patient as well. I used to think that I'll never survive San Fransisco with mine, but I've been surviving and also avoid rear ending someone once as well. Traffic there is crazy, but I have no problem with driving a stick.

I did, but I was driving my uncle's Lexus at that time.
