stupid catallytic converter

:mad: I can't get the catallytic converter off of my exhaust to check wheter or not it is causing too much back pressure in the valvetrain. Something is causing my car to have oilly air go through that pipe on top of the valve cover and build up in my air cleaner, which then drains into my carb. Do you guys have any secrets on how to get the catallytic converter off? Also does it degrade performance if I take it off and make myself 2 1/4" pipe all the way back into a dynomax muffler with a tip? Just wondering. Fill me in on the info.

if you have oil in your airfilter box, the catalitic convertert has nothing to do with it.
it is your PCV valve. change it and you should be good to go.

Is it cheaper to order pcv valve online or just go to the local dealer?

auto parts store, It's a couple of bucks

go to a auto parts store, they are cheap. it would probably cost more to ship it if you got it online somewhere.

I paid $14 for one at a honda dealer..local auto parts said it wasn't in the book..and they are my normal source for stuff.

Getting the cat off requires a torch, a good way to tell ..how's your shift cable ( automatic) or rug( stick) bad cats tend to glow cherry red.

I'd go with the PVC..or as stupid as it sounds..too much oil?

cutting the coverter off means you can't pass an emission test.

Where exactly is the pcv valve on the carbureted 2.0L? I looked in my repair manual and all it has is a pcv filter. The pcv filter comes after the little pipe that the oil is shooting out of and into the air cleaner. Is there a pcv valve somewhere?

the PCV valve is located in the front of the carb on the intake manifold. it has ruber hose on it.

k, look down on your intake. There will be a rubber hose (bout as big around as your thumb) that curls around. Kinda like a half donut shape. on the right side (i think, can't really remember) grab on and pull it off. Plastic Valve under there is the PCV. Grab on to that and pull. Now it is out.
I had to look at a couple pictures, and at my engine a couple of times. Look just to the right of the EGR and right up against your valve cover.
