DX, LX, LXi, SEi, or all of the above?

88-89 LXI and any SE-I

Cool. My 88 Legend had it, and I didn't realize until yesterday that my 88 LXi might have it. It gets up and goes at high RPM nicely for a 12-valver, maybe this is part of the reason why :D

what is a dual stage intake?? Is that the same thing that they have in the Vtec moters that 2 diffrent sets of intake ports??? One for low RPM and than the others open for the Vtec

yeah same design with the butterflies

so does that mean that we more or less have v-tec?

I think POSCarb or someone calls it Pretec

oh yah i've seen the pretec on here somewhere, that makes sense

The B18c1 (not sure about H22) use's a dual stage intake manifold with it's vtec system, of course vtec is a system that activates a different set of more aggressive cam lob's on the intake side, at a preset rpm level. In high power applications (not vtec-e) that rpm level is usually 4600 to 5600rpm's.

The purpose of a dual stage intake manifold is to increase the vololicity of the intake chage as it enter's the cylinder, for better air/fuel mix (swirl). This improves low end power or torque, especially in engine's with 2 intake valves. But that longer, volocity enhancing intake runner become's a liability at higher rpm's when it need's to flow more air but can't effeciently. On a dual intake system, it will switch over to a shorter more effecient intake runner that will flow more air, for peak power.

yet again, 3g ludes have the oddball engines... b20a5 and 2g lude jdm b20a had dual stage intake manifolds, b21 does not... it has been tested and a b21 intake manifold seems to make more power than a b20 manifold on a b20...

Dual-stage intake came on domestic honda/acuras before VTEC did. They are two different systems, not relying on the other in any way.

However, they have similar goals, low RPM torque and high RPM power without the compromise.

My GS-R had both, and the intake switchover points were not the same as the VTEC switchover. This made the powerband very linear.

how much hp do the 3rd gen preludes have?

Okay, what's needed to do a manifold swap from an 89 to an 86?

H22A Lude motors have the dual stage intake, and the purpose is to utilize a longer runner for more torque and then switch to a shorter one for more top end power. Im gonna start working on a ported dual stage lxi intake to see what i can do with it porting wise.

My friends were just asking me if my car {89 lxi hatch} had somesort of a vtec. Because you can really hear itwhen my car hits 4600-6000 rpms. {She} gets up and goes. That is sweet, my friends will shit just like I did.

No, not VTEC... I think they called it VVICs or something, variable velocity intake charge system?

Yeahyeah

I was wondering that too

When I first got her, I look at the engine, 12 valve.. I kinda scoffed at it, my Civic had 16v, but only 1.5

So I get her on the road, take off kinda hard without spinning the tires, but when it hit 4500 the tires spun like crazy...

I was thinking it was a VTEC form too, just early ass model, since i could hear the engine get louder

is it possible to swap an intake manifold from an 88 or 89 lxi into a 87 lxi or not?

Yes, but to make the dual stage intake system work, is something totally different. I was once told all that needed to be done. That was the last time I ever needed to hear that, I never gave the idea a bit of thought after that, not worth it.

so this is why my car sounds amazing at 4500 rpms?...i have an LX-i with a stock engine...so ur saying mine has this?...does anyone have any liternature about it anywheres?..any pages?

I assume the dual stage can be made to work on the earlier accords... another member bypassed the ecu control for the secondaries and ran it off straight manifold vacuum.

i did that and it stays open all the time... I think i may have lost some torque. Im also looking at porting an 87 manifold
