I JUST PUT A NEW CLUTCH IN MY 88, AND I HAVE TWO RATHER DUMB SOUNDING QUESTIONS.
1. WHAT KIND OF OIL DO YOU PUT IN THE DAMN THING?
2. WHERE DO YOU PUT IT IN?

hey man,
i changed the clutch in my car last summer,
two days of battle but it is there. :super:
the manual say to put 10W-30 10W-40. i have 10W-40. No problem sooo far.

Hi:

You need to use motor oil in the tranny. The manual calls for a 10-30 or 10-40.

I've been using a 5-30 synthetic with no problems. In fact, I find the tranny to shift better using the synthetic fluid. As far as filling the tranny, you can do topside with a long hose and funnel. If you're going to do it from under, you will need a pump mechanism.

i used cheap hose from lowe's. and ELM'sLX+CHL'sDX is right. synthetic oil is a lot better, i have 10w-40 castrol synthetic. i know it is expensive but it is worth it.

It took me 1 week cause I broke a part off my speed sensor/ps assist unit. (That sucked) And I needed a little assistance getting the trans into position (and breaking off some of those friggin bolts for the first time, god damn!)

I use a 10w30 synthetic (brand: stick with what brand you believe in) It'll take about 2 to 3 quarts. (actually it's like 2.6 or so... fill her till she starts running out)

I noticed you live in the good ol' city of Chicago. Since you live in my climate, I'd suggest what I use, 10w30. It's not too thick for winter, and good for summer.

thanks for the info, but i still can't figure out where to fill it. is there a plug or something like that i have to remove?

The fill plug is slightly aft and above the drain plug. You'll notice because it's a fairly large bolt with flat washer area and 17mm head. It's usually brass in color.

Make sure you get a replacement washer for both the fill and drain plug. The washer for the fill plug is much larger than the drain plug.
