Transmission help/advice. 89lxi fi manual

Looked for another post that may cover this but couldn't find one so here goes. I have an 89 lxi fuel injected with the five speed in it. My transmission put itself into reverse with the shift linkages coming off the interstate. Needless to say the transmission is completely shot. I'm trying to find out if I can put a transmission from a carb'd 89 lxi fi manual into it. The lady at the scrapyard says the spline lengths are different. I can do basic maintenance to my 3g (replaced whole fuel system myself) but this is a little too deep for my knowledge. I seek the wisdom of my people.

Yes, all 3rd generation manual transmissions are swappable. The only difference is that the shape of the case changed somewhat from 87 to 88, but the internals are all exactly the same.

^ Internals are exactly the same other than different gear ratios. Carbureted models have longer gears (or maybe just 5th) for fuel economy
