What are some good ideas to make my car faster for Free. Using good old tools out of the garage and stuff? Give me some ideas.

ya well ya wont notice the car go any faster by just doing that.
You have an Lx so your car is carborated. Flip the lid on the carbs air box. Screw it in upside down to let more air in. Do that and chop your muffler off I guess. If you dont have emisions you coul gut out your cat converter. stick a straight pipe through that shit. All of that would help out.

well cutting off the muffler does give an increase over 3000 rpm... i did it and it was cool... but nothing beats a header and full exhaust goin to a stanless muffler!

isn't cutting a muffler bad if you don't have a cat ?

ya I guess thats true you would lose a lot of back pressure... I would weld a cheap tip on if you gut the cat. Nice call MIke... :)

Backpressure is not a good thing. Try to avoid it if you can. Cutting the muffler off would give a gain in performance ;)

im sure it would but it sounds kinda cheap

ive said this before and ill say it again...................SPEED HOLES!

simply take a pic and pound holes in ur hood, 4 or 5 will do, it makes the car go faster and looks alot nicer!

:lol :lol :lol

umm sorry man but a lack of back pressure will greatly decrease your low-end torque and thus acceleration. Too much backpressure is also not good for performance but I was never arguing that point, and by the way isnt it "exhaust velocity' Jim? Lol... !!!

i dontk now but i dont have a muffler, i just have a straight pipe out the back to a tip. its sounds sweet not cheap. the fart cannon mufflers are just like no muffler because they are staight thru design.
the car feels like it revs faster and has better response. after i put my header on it helped my low end.

Correct, BACKPRESSURE is not good,....BUT,we should be thinking in terms of exhaust gas volocity. And how we promote it, and at what point do we,........KILL IT.

Cutting off the muffler would REDUCE the volocity of the exhaust gas flowing through the system and hamper performance. You'd end up creating a problem rather than solving one. What ever gain's you muffler cutter's think you've gotten by cutting off the muffler, you'll have MORE power in the end by installing a high performance muffler. High performance muffler's exist for a reason. Stop kidding yourself and start thinking about how you can create a system that will truely benefit you.

Go Jim, he's the man, if he can't explain it, no one can!

lol

so are you saying a high performace muffler will reduce backpressure while maintaining a higher exauhst gas velocity?

Yes.

even with a hipo muffler you still usually lose some of your low end torque and on our you wont gain a ton of high end from just a muffler. there are better places to invest your money first such as a efi / weber conversion but thats just my opinion.

oh and dont expect to get much for free unless you get really really creative.

You'll breathe in harmful fumes if you just lop off the mufler and don't extend the pipe.

I agree with saving the money and getting a weber conversion.
If you get it. You'll love you, your car will love you, and I'll... well i'll just say i told you so. :D

Start running and lose some weight. Your car will have less weight to pull therefore you can go faster :D

My dads 90 prelude si 4ws muffler fell off on the freeway and about a month later we sit at a stop light and when it turns green the guy behind us has to wait until he sees another green light because it turned red while he couldnt see because of all the smoke. Back pressure is neither good or bad but you NEED a muffler and a complete exhaust unless you have for example a 5.0 mustang that is running lower than 12's and you are running strait headers LOL had to bring up the 5.0 I love my bros mercury capri. I just hate how they make fun of hondas and call them rice

If Icut off the catallytic converter and weld some pipe in its place since I have to cut it off since it's clogged anyway. (haha california no emissions here). Will that add some power over a CLEAN catallytic converter?

Possiable some highend but I would go with a pacesette or dynomax highflow cat over a straight pipe you can order from www.summitracing.com or www.nopi.com

I am leaving the muffler on but cutting the cat out and welding a pipe in place of the like 12" it took in the exhaust.
