For sale is my ‘88 Accord LX, manual transmission, carbureted. This car was my first car and I drove it for 15 years, from 1999 to 2014—incredible piece of engineering. My dad was the second owner, me the third, and I have repair records all the way back to 1991, when he bought it. (I have the dealer receipt from March of 1991 when he bought the vehicle. He traded in a ’76 Dodge Aspen for it, lol, so this car has been maintained well by people who take good care of their vehicles.)

Unfortunately, my current situation disallows me from doing the necessary repairs. It needs a head gasket job, a head machining or new head, and radiator. I am putting it up for sale here on 3geez because I’d like to sell it to someone who will appreciate it, and has the time and money to fix it up. The interior is in pretty good shape—clean. The car has not run in a year since I started taking it apart. Currently, the carburetor is off of the intake manifold, as well as the air cleaner housing. I am including some extra things to go along with it that can also be seen in the pictures.

The car is currently right off Interstate 80 in Iowa, so it may be reasonable for someone to come get it. This car has a clear and clean title in the state of Indiana.

I’m asking $800 OBO. Let me know if you would like to see more pics.

Maintenance, other than oil changes, done in the not-too-distant past:

-New battery connectors and carburetor cleaning in November of 2013
-New transmission oil in May of 2011
-New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug hole repair insert for stripped threads in July of 2010
-New muffler, resonator, exhaust pipe and hanger, fuel filter, fuel system tune up, and rear brake drums in May of 2010 (199,000 miles)
-(I got a Lifetime Alignment and Lifetime Rear Drum Brakes at Firestone also in May of 2010, but unfortunately this can’t be transferred to a new owner.)
-New oil drain plug in February of 2010.
-New tires and alignment in May of 2009 at 190,004 miles. The car currently has 210,219 miles on it, and the tires have worn evenly, so there is plenty of life left in the tires.
-New Distributor O-ring, D-Ring, thermostat w/gasket, and coolant flush in November of 2009.
-New Left and Right CV axles and Left and Right front brake calipers in March of 2008.
-New Right headlamp door, unpainted, in December of 2007.
-Honda Radio and CD player from a ‘98 Honda (last year Honda made the size radio that would fit in this vehicle) installed in November of 2007. Custom harness made to fit ’88 hookup. This CD player doesn’t work currently, however.
-New radiator, water pump, timing belt, and drive belts in February of 2006.
-All new coolant hoses in July of 2006.

Issues:

-The vehicle is not running at this time. Needs a head gasket job, a head machining or new head, and radiator to run. (The current radiator cracked because combustion gases leaked into the cooling system and raised the pressure too high.) Also, because the car has been sitting for a year, the battery is dead now. It may be chargeable since it was new in June of 2013, but I don’t know for sure.
-Transmission whines slightly when in fifth gear, but the gear engages and functions normally. The sound got much quieter when I changed the transmission oil. Machining the fifth gear, or a new fifth gear would fix this.
-CD player does not work.
-Paint faded on hood, roof, and trunk.
-Typical rust on rear wheel wells, slightly more on left side. Right side is minimal.
-Glove box does not stay in when opening. Needs a plastic hinge on one side.
-Crack on bottom of windshield. Both ends terminate downwards at the bottom of the windshield, so it hasn’t expanded at all since it first cracked in January of 2010.
-A/C does not work. I took the A/C belt off so the compressor wouldn’t take horsepower off the engine. The hookup ports for charging are fairly new—they were put on in March of 2011.
-Steering wheel emblem needs to be glued or adhesive taped to wheel. I have a new emblem.
-Small crack in rear bumper on left.
