I've seen retractable spoilers on porsches before...does anyone know what would be involved in setting up something like this for a 3G, or any other car?

Mostly, it's the all-important unique mod...how many 3Gs have you seen with retractable spoilers? Also, I'd like a spoiler that I don't have to look at all the time. I've seen it on Porsches, VW bug, etc...but I dunno how easy it would be to make a custom one.

the porsche on itscontrolled by the computer. its speed activated like once you hit 65 or something like that. youd have to completely invent your own system. youd have to own a body shop or be a bondo king to make it come out looking ok plau where would you put it? and where would it come out of? the middle of the trunk?

You are driving a car with 98HP and its front wheel drive.....why would you want one? Your asking to get laughed at, oh wait you already did. I just laughed at you for having a retarded idea.

Nate.

I was going to say that he could have it flip up from the front on the hood between the headlights :)

It would look really trick . . . BUT on cars with retractable spoilers, the wing doesn't usually raise until you're well past the speed limit. In most roadracing that we would involve our cars in, my opinion is that the speeds attained aren't high enough to utilize the downforce given by a rear wing on a FWD. I'm not even sure that an airdam increases performance in a race where speeds don't exceed 70 mph, and 70 mph is fast for races our cars would qualify for. I'm talking roadracing here and not drag racing, because downforce seems to be most desired for cornering, not for straightaways.

Maybe you could rig up a switch to flip it up whenever you want it to.

First off, I wasn't planning on installing it anytime soon (partly because I'd need a second car while the 3G is disassembled, and a test car to try it on first)...even without knowing what's fully involved, I'm sure that it would be a major undertaking. So, I wouldn't be riding around in a car that has a busted corner light and is in sad need of a paint job, but sports a retractable spoiler. :lol It would be after I had put some serious work into it...the spoiler project itself would be quite a job.

Secondly, the necessity of a spoiler isn't really an issue...after all, why is it an option from the factory? Why do people put them on to begin with? Because they like them, of course. Most people don't really need 17-inch wheels, but people spend major dough on them anyway. Most people don't laugh at beat-up, dirty, spoiler-clad escorts that can't get over 80. I consider it just another mod which hasn't yet become popular (in 30 years, every car might have a retractable spoiler...then again, they might not). BTW, I'm fairly sure that anyone (that's not me, at least not right now) with the ability to build the thing and install it could find a way to toggle between automatic deployment (at a certain speed) and doing it with a switch.

I got the idea originally from the hood spoilers...someone said they're ugly (and they are) but might serve a purpose. So, how about a retractable one? Well, 3G front ends are pretty cramped as it is...so that would be a lot harder. I think that a section of the hood itself, with a spoiler on the bottom, could be made to flip up on a switch; behind the gap left could be a body kit extension, to protect the engine.

whew...time for a nap.

If you're interested, there's a Corrado retractable wing with motors for sale on Ebay.

A finger might serve a purpose, if I had some more speed, so that I could get away from the cops after I flip them off. As a matter of fact, I've been smoking duck. It has weird effects, like making me wanna grow a wing out my trunk.

I saw the Corrado spoiler pic...but I'm not quite sure that's what I'm looking for. Thanks anyway, though.
