Motors only

B20A $800-$1500 Complete
B16A $1200 Complete

The B16 will require about $1300 in hardware (depending on your supplier) so i would say Jays estimate was very close depending on the shop that does the install.

The B20A doesnt need any hardware but i would replace the axles and mounts depending on condition of what you have. But you have to keep in mind JDM engines are not maintained as well and expect to spend some money for OEM parts. I dont know many people that just drop it in without doing at least the timing belt, water pump etc. My friends H22 was in pretty sad shape and i would say he spend an additionaly $1400 or so on parts plus lightened flywheel and clutch. So dont forget about the other things. I spent an additional $1300 on parts for my JDM A20A but i must say it was in excellent shape and probably could have done just the timing, water pump, clutch/flywheel. So just remember all the other things cause $3000 will get you a stock motor that may have some bad seals from transportation and lack of maitnance and need some work.

I'm doing a complete rebuild on my B20A before putting it in my car. I don't want to take it out again and experience a major downtime. I prefer to do it while the engine is out of the car. Besides, my A20A works fine for now.
