I am trying to take off the hub nut on my parts car so that I can lift the engine and rebuild it and then do my efi swapl.
Here's the problame I have a braker bar and the correct hub socket. I am a big guy and have a good bit of strength not to mention wieght (250lbs), and I cant get the fucking nut off. So I go to Lowes hardware and buy a cheater (a 3' steel pipe). And guess what I still can't get the damn thing off, I put so much pressure on the breaker bar that I bent it (a little less than 3/4" thick) and brook off the part that holds the socket 1/2".
Does anybody know of any way to get the thing off without breaking tools. I have an air compressor and tools but I dont think that they can put enough torgue.
thanx
BTW: sorry i just noticed that i put this in the wrong location

Some might call this post pointless... but I dont think you should have to put that much force into gettin that biatch off. Got a torch? Heat it. Its ghetto... and its dangerous... but it works. Heat it until its just red (not orange or white or melting onto the floor). There's my advice.

thanx ninja but i think that the torch is a little out of my realm at this time.
does anyone have other ideas
I've read on the board that other people dremel or otherwise cut the SOB off.
I have the same problem with one of mine that I will eventually have to deal with.

I had to use air tools to get mine loose! Try em.

I had the same problem me and 2 friends broke a breaker bar . SO then we took the car to our friend that is a mechanic and he busted out the impact, it took about 30 seconds.

you will need 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket. anything smaller and you will probably break it.

also, do not heat it! unless you are planning on replacing the CV boot and repacking the joint.

This one uses air compression. Common tool in workshops. Others less capable use electricity. Definitely a nice tool to have, saves alot of time and knuckles.

that the axle nuts has a right handed thread!
I'm not laughin, I just realized the nuts on my wife's car ( the one with the bad tranny) are going to be an epic of axle nut removal stories.
heck sears has compresors on sale next week...:-)..I am NOT swapping any more engines without air tools, smacking wrenches with your hands leads to long term problems..so does really pulling on breaker bars.
besides compressed air has a million and one uses, I can't believe I've waited this long to get some air going. I did a head gasket a couple of years back..no air...and on a reallly hot july 4th.
