View Full Version : Car will die if I don't keep rpms up by giving it gas.

It just started to develop this symptom. No problem starting, but once it warms up and I drive, and if I come up to a stop light, the rpms will drop below 750 and shutdown. It will start right back up. So to prevent that, I either push the brake and give it gas, or put it in park and give it gas. This had never happened before.

The car runs great when I am driving, no hesitation or misfiring. Fuel in bowl is right in the middle.

I have never replaced the dizzy, so I wonder if that would be a good start. I have the dizzy rotated as far as it can to keep my timing marks correct. Checked the timing and it is correct.

Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Additional info: It has new fuel pump and fuel filters, cap and rotor.

Just wanted to follow up on this. Ran two full thanks with Seafoam and the problem is gone. It idles right at 750. Smoother idle and acceleration.
