View Full Version : cause of failed power window opener?

The power window on the passenger side of my coupe has stopped working. It has been sluggish for a long time but I thought that was due to friction between the window and door strips against the window. That behavior did not seem to get progressively worse; it seemed to hold constant for months, even years. But, when the complete failure occurred, it happened suddenly.

Is failure of the motor, or "regulator", the most likely cause of this problem? If so, then I believe I need DormanĀ® - Honda Accord 1988-1989 Dorman Window Regulators (http://www.carid.com/1988-honda-accord-electrical-parts/dorman-power-window-regulator-16086739.html) (or another brand of the same product) which is the whole regulator assembly, not just the motor. I don't know whether the motor alone can be replaced, so buying a regulator kit seems to be the solution, assuming the old one is the reason for the failure.

Most likely the regulator. Next time try this:

About 10 months has passed since I posted this topic. I never replaced the regulator. And, yesterday, my son was riding in the car with me and he pressed the power window button and it worked. After that, i used it several times to see whether it continued to function and it did. i have no idea why it has started working but I hope it continues.

probably a relay in the door. very little chance its a mostly blown fuse or bad connection. Good luck getting a new relay, its discontinued. you can buy used and hope it isnt worse than yours.

I just used the passenger switch in the drivers door and bypassed the relay in my car.

Is it not possible to retrofit an aftermarket relay?
