hey whats up everyone. i just got my first 88 honda accord about a week ago and i wanted to install my headunit. i took a quick look and i was not sure how to take the dash part for the headunit out. my other cars were easy to figure out. hondas probably are too i just dont want to risk it and break it so if anyone can help me out that would be great thanks - mike

dude you dont have to take the dash apart. just go from underneith. there is a little gray box under there just unscrew that from both sides then you have easy access to the back of the deck.

Is there a unit in there already? Is that what you were saying? Regardless you dont take the dash apart.

Unscrew the grey box, then there should be 2 10mm bolts holding the tape deck in place. Unscrew these. Take a firm hold of the front of the tape deck and simply pull. (If the previous owner of your car was a HUGE slob, like mine was, the tape deck might be kinda stuck in there by him dumping coffee or something else sticky in with it, in that case, push from the back as well as pull).

Once you've gotten the gray box taken apart, than its really straight forward. Easier than hell!

you dont need to take the dash apart. try pushing the old unit out from behind, and of it is hard it must be screwed in somewhere, in which case you must unscrew it and push it out. the 3gee accords are the easiest stereo to work on

My "grey box thingy" simply would NOT COME UNDONE! Like every bolt anywhere on my car is rusted to hell, so apparently that was no exception... I ended up getting one side undone, but both sides got bent to hell, so I have to rebend it back when I totally finish my latest project.
