Any tips on removing the bolt that is on the bottom of the intake on cylinder three? This is on a 1989 Accord LX with the carbonated A20A1.

Here is the intake for cylinder three circled in red:

Here is the specific bolt under the manifold circled in red:

Is there some tool I can buy that will make this job easier? I am sure that if any of you have dealt with this particular bolt you will know how much of a pain in the ass it is.

I thank you all in advance for the help.

There was a special tool that Honda sold for those bolts years ago. It was just a specially shaped box end wrench. It worked really well for the application. I don't know if they still sell it but it's worth asking. Be prepared for them to charge a lot more than it's worth.

Alternatively, you can try reaching up from the bottom of the engine, but it will be challenging.

Finally, some old mechanics would wait until pulling the engine before tackling those bolts.

snooz is right. when i did my headgasket i just pulled it with the intake manifold and exhaust manifold. it took 2 people to take it off and put it back on because its a bit heavy. you will need to take them off from the bottom and have a snap on swivel adaptor.

How do I free the intake to detach it with the head? Do I just need to take off the two support beams that attach the bottom of the intake to the back of the block?

For anyone who may also have the same issue as me (removing bolt under cylinder three intake) this is how I got the head removed:

1) Remove timing belt, head bolts, exhaust manifold, power steering pump, and all of the intake bolts you can.

2) Remove the bolts for the intake support (the two bolts are at the end of the two black support beams, I circled the general location of the bolts in blue) :
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/Griff555/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-18%20at%207.35.26%20PM_zpsonedcq2f.png (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/Griff555/media/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-18%20at%207.35.26%20PM_zpsonedcq2f.png.html)

3) Pull the head up about an inch or two and put some rags between the block deck and cylinder head so the cylinder head will stay up.

4) Then get a 12mm 1/4in drive socket (Craftsman), a 1/4in drive universal joint (Advanced Autoparts), and a 1/4in drive extensions (about 3 inches)(Craftsman). Put the 1/4in socket attached to the universal joint onto the bolt. Then attach the extension to the universal joint so the extension is in the space between the cylinder two and three intake. Here is what I mean:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/Griff555/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-18%20at%207.43.38%20PM_zpslsjlhonr.png (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/Griff555/media/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-18%20at%207.43.38%20PM_zpslsjlhonr.png.html)

5) Push the extension down. This will loosen the bolt. Note that the socket will slip off if it is not fully on the bolt.

I then reached up from the bottom and used a 3/8in to 1/4in adapter (Advanced Autoparts) to attach a 3/8in ratchet to the 1/4in extension. Then I was able to loosen the bolt fairly quickly.

Let me know if anything I wrote is unclear. I tend to be confusing at times when writing.
