'88 Accord Lx Clicking but not starting.

Might be getting an 88 lx from a trade with a buddy, was told it needs a starter, as it clicks everytime you try to turn it over. All the dashlights come on but it wont start.

Any ideas ? Thanks for looking !

if i were to get a new starter what are the odds on it running ?

Start by inspecting the battery cables. If they get corroded or loose they won't deliver enough amperage to make the starter do anything. Heck, just try wiggling the cables around and you'll probably get it started. Have a friend wiggle the cables while you turn the key. Please don't let him stand in front of the car though...
