The grommet that holds the hood rod on my 88 Accord has broken and the hood rod holder (for the other end of the rod) disappeared after having a new battery installed at a local auto parts store. So, the rod is currently just laying in there and that's not a good situation. I think I should keep the rod in the trunk until I get the parts replaced.

Honda Accord Odyssey Pilot Hood Rod Holder and Hood Opener Stay Grommet Genuine | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Accord-Odyssey-Pilot-Hood-Rod-Holder-and-Hood-Opener-Stay-Grommet-GENUINE-/221740968714?fits=Make%3AHonda&hash=item33a0caab0a:g:FWAAAOSwPYZU6fGs&vxp=mtr) looks like parts that might fit but the seller's list of compatible model cars does not include '88 Accords. I could buy the pair on eBay and take a chance on them not fitting but would prefer to have some confidence that a purchased part will fit.

I found a rod holder only at Honda Accord CR V Prelude NSX TL Vigor Acura Hood Prop Rod Clip Clamp Holder CRV | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Accord-CR-V-Prelude-NSX-TL-Vigor-Acura-Hood-prop-rod-clip-clamp-holder-CRV-/271884143029?fits=Make%3AHonda&hash=item3f4d8ec9b5:g:HG8AAMXQ2kxSKA2v&vxp=mtr) which IS supposed to fit '88's, as well as other years. But, I'd have to buy the grommet separately then.

Any suggestions for finding these items for my car?

Those links should work.

Thanks for the link. In the end, I ordered the grommet from the local Honda dealer. I should have tried that to begin with; I assumed they probably would not have it.

I ordered the holder/clip from an eBay seller. In hindsight, I would have got it from the local dealer too, but had already ordered on eBay, which will take some time to get since the seller is in Asia.

Anyway, I'm glad I now know about partstrain.com, the site you posted. Looks like a good source for parts for older cars.

I stopped at the dealership yesterday and got the grommet. To get it on the rod, I had to slit the rubber grip on the hood-end of the rod and then threaded the grommet onto the rod. Then, the grommet easily snapped into place.

I wish slitting the rubber grip had not been necessary but I saw no other way to get the grommet on the rod. I put the rubber grip back on the rod and put some electrical tape around it to keep it in place. Will see how that works.

The 4g rod holder works great in our cars. Doesn't break nearly so quickly either.

I received the rod holder/clip from an eBay seller today. It fits right, so I'm satisfied.
