The pitting is not supper deep but I think it will be best to have the head milled since it is so close to the cylinder, right? Do I have to do anything if I have a little of the cylinder head milled off or will the engine be fine? Also there is a lot of corrosion in the coolant passages, should I worry about that or will running fresh OEM coolant stop further corrosion? The radiator has corrosion too but I think it's ok; the reason the engine overheated was a stuck thermostat.

any machine shop should be able to hot tank it and resurface it.

Might want to think about another head.

You can get it milled but getting the coolant passages cleaned out is prolly impossible.

There new cam on Rockauto for like 80$ too yours is pretty worn.

Look at your rocker arm pads as well for wear.

Is there any issue with having some corrosion in the passages? I think I am just going to pick up a camshaft and rocker arm assembly from a junkyard.

I thought hot tanking it would take out all the corrosion in the coolant passages? Also, a little corrosion inside them is going to probably not hurt anything. They're not sealing surfaces in there or anything.

Okay Blue, what do you know that I don't? The only problem with the corrosion that I'm aware of is the potential for water jacket failure, which is rare. Am I missing something? At this point, it's gonna be pretty hard to find a head without corrosion.

Over heating.

I saw a lot of heads just like that when I lived in Florida. ALotta people just ran water or used well water/glycol not thinking much about aluminium heads.

The passages are more than just plugged they are damaged from corrosion.

Headgaskets blown once chances are that is the reason why.

Thanks for the replies. I had the head resurfaced and the pitting is gone now. The corrosion in the cylinder head isn't that bad really, it just built up around where the head gasket covered the passages.
