I'm looking for an e-brake to match my shift knob, and the thought dawned on me....how the hell would i take the old one off. Is it even possible?

You would have to cut it off and put a boot in the opening that comes up to your new handle as it would be bare metal underneath and is Quite ugly (I took one off in the wrecking yard once to see how it looked).

you dont have to cut it off- all you have to do is pull up the plastis covering from around the e-brake- and measure how much of that to cut off for the new handle to slide on and look flush- you can buy a type r handle off of nopi.com for 23 dollars-it fits great- and is flush with my old plastic cover- to cut the cover all you need to do is use a dremel or something of that sort-becareful-and good luck
