What guage are you talking about?

Sheet steel's thickness (among other things) is measured in 'gauge'. For example, the spokes in most bicycles are 14 gauge. Electrical wiring is also measured in gauge. The bigger the number the smaller the thickness. I would guess 18-20 for our cars.

Why are you curious?

because i need a welder to patch up some rusty spots on my car, and i was wondering if i had to spend extra money for a mig or a tig when a flux core wirefeed welder would do just fine... since i'm extremely strapped for cash, i may have to look for a used mig welder... thanks, though

it depends on the part of the car, some places are thicker than others

outer body panels... i guess i'll go with a mig because i can do more with it in the longrun

thanks much for the help guys

BTW, this needs to be in an FAQ once we get the exact numbers on it

my flux cored wire burns right thru the body pannels... even at the lowest settings.
