It took aprox. 2 days, it would have taken less time, but a few things had to be modified. The car runs pretty good (nothing a little tunning can't fix.)

looking good. hey justin you guys did a good job on the swap. hey trevor told me you need a wiring harness for your dash from a 88-89 carb hatch or coupe . ill keep a look out at the junk yeard for ya. anyways it feels pretty good when you drive it. its got a different feel to it then the a20. when i drove it i kept hitting th rev limiter in second. because it doesnt whine out the the a20 does. you just keep going. its badass. i let him bolink shock you into telling you how much he paid for it. good job guys.

Lookin good fellas. But,.......what's the plan for when the annual emissions test come's up? What is CARB gonna think of it?

88turboaccord
01-27-2003, 11:34 PM
You know what is funny, the motor should pass emissions with no problems, it is the visual that is the problem. Stupid California. All the emissions and sensors are hooked up correctly, whats the problem cali?

Man, that engine is looking tight! pretty clean and shiny. Let's see how long it stays like that :D

man, everytime I see something like this, makes me just do a swap myself. I don't know, I don't know what I'm gonna do! all i know is that Income tax time is coming! :D

On the other hand, I'm still adding stuff to my A20. Its just so tempting, I CAN'T STOP!

Is that Justin's shop???

I was wondering what DC header did you use? Is it the same one as the A20? or is it the one for the prelude b20? Did you have to move the O2 sensors? Thats what it looks like anyway. Thanks

Cameron

P.S. Looking sweet!!!!!

:) Im so happy thats its finally done I got the motor 6 months ago .I paid $275 for the engine I spent $80 dollars on the tranny the DC header was $300 the cat back was $150 the labor on getting the bottom of the hrader fixed $90 the new cluch was $100 the fly wheel $20 supplies were $100 and all the labor putting it in was free and Im sure there was some odds and ends $30 all together $1145 is not bad for all the extra power Im varry happy. :smokin:

BOLINKXR-89LXI
01-29-2003, 07:11 PM
:) he DC header is for a 89-91 prelude but you have to make a new down pipe and plug the o2 sensors and put them in the down pipe like it the pixs:smokin:

BOLINKXR-89LXI
01-29-2003, 07:19 PM
:) everything bolted rite in on the factory mounts and I used the stock a20a ecu and wireing harnes . I did have to chang the distributor to a 87 intrgra and the crank angly scensor allso from the same year intrgra the b20a came with a digital distributor that wont work with my a20a ecu.:smokin:

The accord bay is rather nice to do swaps and pulling the motor would be fast for Justin (think he said 45 minutes) so they would have been done a lot faster and i see the issues with the downpipe now.

joker2
01-31-2003, 07:21 AM
Yeah but I still don't see why the O2 sensors were placed so low instead of leaving them in the factory location........ I know some fab work was done on the downpipe but it was done below the factory sensor location...... Can you guys clear this up for me.....:D  :D

Whitehonda
01-31-2003, 09:01 AM
I am just guessing, but they probibly didn't fit in the engine bay.

The o2 sensors had to be moved, with the dc header, the o2 sensors hit the crossmember. So they had to be moved.

nice dude. i do wish a 3gee in the U.S. came with the B20 but all we need is to take out the old engine and put one in. i just need all the tools and shit it takes to do this. i noticed that ur bumper is from an '86-'87 and ur car is an '88-'89. did u just get a new bumper cuz the original was messed up?

So I assume this means that a B20 is not a direct bolt in swap for an A20, right? (You mentioned different tranny and modifications)
PS, what did you do with your A20? I need one!

the b20 does just drop in. the problem was that he was putting a AFTERMARKET header in for a b20 prelude engine. the b20 prelude engine sits a a backward angle so the header made for the B20 prelude engine has nore curve. the b20 accord engine OEM header has less curve because it tilts forwad. so he took the header to a shop and had it reangled so it would fit the titled forword JDM b20 accod engine. did you get all that. and he is also using a prelude clutch on the jdm accord tranny. so it fit but not quite. he had to grind some of the metal so the clutch didnt hit the bell housing. if you just went with all oem parts you would have a problem. but thats where the problem is . in japan they anly keep there cars for 30,000 miles then they get new ones. so whats the sense in honda of japan to make parts for a car 14 years old when no one in japan has that car. so oem are hard to get. but oem b20 accord parts are near impossible to get. you have to do modification to make them work. the reason he used the prelude clutch instead of the oem b20 clutch. is cuz he wanted a new clutch for his new engine. well since its extremely hard to get the oem jdm b20 clutch for the accord he went with a usdm prelude clutch.

i was asking trevor this question but i dont think he had the answer.

why didnt you just cut off the o2 sensor holes and angle the sensors at a 45 degree angle so the pointed up. instead of moving them completely. that way you would have not had to plug the holes. you would have used the regualar holes but only had to chop the 02 sensor pipe fittings to a angle then reweld them back on. just wondering.

no you have to use a OEM JDM B20 ACCORD TRANNY. you cant just use the a20 tranny.

:) most of the time you find a b20 it has an auto on it and I sure dont wont an auto so your going to have to do some work to find a five speed or just get a b20 with a five speed :smokin:

02-04-2003, 08:17 PM
so what was all involved for the engine bay wiring ? Any specifics would be great ! Or did all the clips just connect up to the JDM engine bay harness ?

BOLINKXR-89LXI
02-04-2003, 08:31 PM
:) plug and play my frind no cutting or wireing just use the stock harness only one sencer didnt plug in and it doesn't need it ,its to make the fan run when the car is off:smokin:

sweet, I almost spent the same amount on converting to efi as you did for that (almost).
Looks very sweet, mmmmm. If its that easy, I'll definetly have to keep my eye open for one that'll be the hard part (or next to impossibble)
How bout shift linkage, did that connect up to the JDM b20 tranny fine ?
Thanks again

BOLINKXR-89LXI
02-05-2003, 09:15 PM
:) all the linkage fit perfectly no cutting just put the bolt in the hole youv got to rember this engine came out of a jdm 3g it fits perfectly :smokin:

I saw it for a vinal sticker add on eBay, and it was a big collage of all kinds (B16, H22, vtec, ect.) I just took it into photoshop and chopped it to fit in an avatar. It's just hosted by my car domain account. You are welcome to link to it for your avatar or whatever.

that would be cool to have one that says A20 inside, but since my car's a BS, that wouldn't be cool.
