Ok I've adjusted my valve many times on my A20A1 Head and had little or no tapping.
But now I have the A20A3 block and head and the tapping is very noticeable... does this have something to do with the higher CR of the A20A3? Should I reset the Gaps larger? Right now it's set as the cam card suggested. (0.008 Intake, 0.010 Exhaust) I've used those specs on the LX head with no problems.

I'm hoping the head just needs some time to settle in with the new cam.

Also what worries me is my odd vacuum signals... it behaves like the vacuum isn't always present at idle and my distributor advance sounds like it retards ignition (but it's not) and when I remove the vacuum line the idle goes higher. Also manifold vacuum sometimes increases when I step on the brake... enough to raise the idle and vacuum guage quite bit, I'm used to it working the other way around. This too could have something to do with the valves... or my exhaust leaks.

But at least the cars running... full 2.5" is a bit much, I can no longer listen to the radio over my exhaust, 2.5" cat back was a lot quieter.

.010-.012" for exhaust, .005-.007" for intake is what Honda recommends for the LXi engine. The fuel injectors will always click some.

My car has a similar brake-idle problem. My idle will drop to about 500 rpm when I've got the brake pedal down, otherwise it's at 650 just like it's supposed to.

.010-.012" for exhaust, .005-.007" for intake is right. That's the specs listed in the factory service manual and it's also the specs used in many of Honda's engines. And it does seem like it might be a good idea to back it off a bit. Geoff always tells me to set the factory or his specs and then tighten or loosen if it doesn't sound right.

hmm it may or may not be the valves... I can hear my carb ticking... which may mean the powervalve is going bonkers or for some ungodly reason i forgot to put in a air correcion jet and the emulsion tubes are having a partay! :D

either way I readjusted the valves to 0.008" Intake 0.011" Exhaust.

and I fixed a vacuum leak to the brake booster. Any who the higer compression makes a world of difference in the bottom end. :D

IS your rocker arm specs within limits? the Arm To shaft clearance should be bwt 0.0003 - 0.0021

also check Valve steam to guide clearance

intake: 0.001 - 0.002
Exhaust: 0.002 - 0.004

and lastly the Steam installed height

intake: 1.913
exhaust: 1.876

well thats it for now, came across while refering for ur clearance issues. hope that helps ;)

so does that mean that the honda stock hood that honda printed themselves is wrong. why would they tell consumers of the car different then they would tell for say the haynes manual. please i want someone to answer this. ive asked it before but no one answered. thanks

.010-.012" for exhaust, .005-.007" for intake is right. -YK86

I can back that up for Yasu. Yo Socal, are you sure ur looking at the numbers with the units as inches? cause there are two different units they use there. one in mm and the other is in inches if i am not mistaken. :stick:

ok mine says:

valve lash: intake 0.15 (+2 or -3) Exhuast 0.28 (+2 or -3)

now i have a camera but i have to wait till a family member brings it home later tonight. but for all the non- belivers i will take pics. then it will leave the quest who is right? honda or Hayne. i am %99.99999 that i kno what i just read under neath my hood about 3 minutes ago. i just want to know the answer, not tryin to be a ass.

as far as i understood the vavle lash the gap above the springs that you have to use a feeler gauge to adjust right?

yo what ur seeing is right and look at the units like i said its in mm, as in millimeters.

what we gave were in inches. So we both were right, but you were reffering to mm while we were using inches.

We should have a common use of measurment on this site to make it less confusing. How about we measure things the size of a 3G :) Like .50 3G :D

the stadard use of units in US is feet, and ft-lbs and hp and stuff like that. so naturally, fractions of that ends up in inches and thats what was provided by me and yasu as the units. but in other countries as in Eurpoean and Asian countries use english units where as we use SI and thats why the mm comes in and thats one of the reason honda shop manual has both unit factors.
