Okay I've had an idle problem for a while. It's pretty much known that the choke gets stuck open, since it likes to idle wherever it likes to whenever it wants to. Sometimes it idles where it is supposed to. I'll be cruising down the road and be in 3rd gear and not even have to press the gas pedal. Same for all gears. Or when I'm at a stoplight the idle is around 3 grand. I've tried lifting the gas pedal with my foot. Nothing. I've used gumout carb cleaner 2 or 3 times and used the entire can. Nothing. I don't know what to do now! Help.

I don't have the money for a new carb.

Start saving, I tried everything possible to fix the high idle. I didn't try re tuning the carb though. I figured the stock carb is not worth the hassle so I bought a weber.

you could rebuild it yourself. the rebuild kit is like $20.

I am really inexperienced in that area. Is it something I should tackle?

i have never done it myself, but I have heard that it is easy. there might be a how-to on it, theck the how-to section.

are u letting the car fully warm up?

possible a vaccum leak near the choke?

It's been scoped and there are no leaks.

spray some carb cleaner into the vent pipe that runs at a 45 degree angle in the carb throat..you certainly wanna check the throttle stop screw also ( see faq's for the how-2's) couple of raps on the carb with some wood "might" help..but that's a hail mary for sure. I'd make a bet on the throttle cable being too tight and the idle stop screw being turned in too much.

So many things go wrong causing poor idle, fast idle. The most simple task is to see if the choke is open all the way when engine is at operating temp.
Also that small choke linkage could be bent from the air cleaner hitting it and causing it to not open plus connection may have got disconnected.
