I have read on the board about people getting cam regrinds for the efi accords..but what about the carb cars. What kind of power gains have you guys felt on an other wise 'stock' car with the reground cam? I have thought about a cam regrind, but I hear it creates idle and stalling problems. Anyone have any experience with the cam regrinds on the stock carbs..

Also, what are the regrind levels, and what type of driving is best for each level? And what are the differences in power felt with each level? That make any sense?

Ask A20a1, he has one of Mike's cams i think. If you have a mild grind, you wont have any idle problems.

Get the mild grind... you won't have idle problems... and the regrind still works good with the stock carb.

Oh and i didn't get my cam from MIKE... I got mine from COLT CAMS...

YK86 has the mild grind... but I think his car is EFI

How much was the colt cam, on a scale of 1-10 what would you give the cam, where are the biggest gains felt and did you have to send in a core? (I would guess you sent in one).

Also, did you have to adjust the stock carb any? And how in the hell do you install a cam........haha.

You have to send in the core... I have a core out of the car. but I'm short on cash... I was going to get the Mild grind as well...
right now I have the Wild grind... something you might not like.
I have pics of me installing the cam I just got to get them developed and scanned in. Colt Cams will send you a cam card with the valve clearances... so you can adjust your valves after the cam is in.
For me the total cost was about $200, I paid for express shipping of my core out to colt cams and also express shipped my money order.
But for the regrind itself the cost is about $150

i paid $91.20(with shipping) for my regrind that came from crower www.crower.com . like everyone is saying if you want to keep your mpg and a buttery smooth idle then go with a mild cam. cams are not realy listed in levels more by duration; what one company calls a mild cam might be different than another company's mild cam. the only standered in cam spec is the duration measured at 0.050" of lift. check out these earlier post about cams the should answer most question if you read them.

This is mine I got from Colt...
It holds very true to the power band... tho with the higer revs you realy should consider uprgading the carb to a weber.

(4,000 to 7,500 rpm ) Power Band

280° Duration / .392 Lift / ( .008 Clearance ) Intake

288° Duration / .394 Lift / ( .010 Clearance ) Exhaust

here is my cam specs

Intake duration 213.0 @ 0.050 lift
Exhuast duration 224.0 @ 0.050 lift
Intake lift 0.430
Exhaust lift 0.430
Lobe Center 110
Valve OverLap -1.5

smaller the duration numbers, the better the idle.

my duration is 274 :p

I got a good overall idle but it might explain why it moves up and down a little bit
