I've got a carbed 88 LX and she's pretty sluggish... I have to hammer the gas to the floor if i want to squeak out into traffic... is there any way to increase my "take off" time or my throttle responce for that matter?
I have an Accel coil, performance wires and new plugs gapped at .055 so i dont know what else i should do. Is there an adjustment to timing on the distributor or an adjustment on the carb that is fairly easy yet effective?

is there a way to improve my throttle responce? im talking without any major mods. I have a sluggish carbed a20 that needs me to floor it in order to squeak out into traffic.
is there any kind of timing adjustment on the distributor or throttle adjustment on the carb that I can do to improve acceleration?

tightin trottle cable if its loose
Advance timing a little ( u can advance it just a little bit so u can still run 87 ocatnce gas)
Remove all uneeded vaccum line crap, and do mechanical seconary
Get High flow air filter and flip lid

thats all i can thing of right now

do the flip up lid, have ur rpm a lil around 2K. and if u have an auto, your pretty much helpless.

- Replace the fuel filters first

- Advance the igniton slightly

- Buy reliable FPR and set it to 3.5 psi. (I've tried Spectre Dial in type fuel pressure regulator and it cuts off the fuel supply at 3,000 - 3,600 rpm. It doesn't alwasy happen which is why I still try and use it now and then.
Other people pon the net have had simmilar problems with dial in FPR's so don't get the dial in kind.

Thing is I wonder if locking out the fuel flow to the carb is a part of it's normal function, or just a fluke. When the car is at idle the fuel line is rock hard between the carb and FPR, and I can stomp the gas as fast and as hard as I want and the revs will shoot up quicker then with a normal fuel pressure.

It was a $15.00 mod, and real easy to install. I was dissapointed it didn't work out.

If you advance it too much what could go wrong?

just turn it alittle bit, i made a mark then turned it just a nuff so it wasnt lined up with the mark still. also i can still run 87 octane gas with it advanced just a little.

if u advance it too much u will get detonation or seriouse engine damage such as thown rod.
