hey

if any of the mods want to move this post to the technical section if they feel that it is in the wrong section... be my guest.

I was wondering what the changes were between the 87 and the 88 that gained the extra 10 hp. is it possible to modify an 86 or 87 to the specs of an 88/89? I feel stupid now that I know that the car made a year later than mine gets 10 hp more... Argh...

hopefully someone can help

thanks

dual stage intake manifold higher comp 4-2-1 header different ecu less vacume lines.

how is the higher comperession achieved? slightly different head or pistons? would it be worth using the header or should i get a dc or pacesetter?

thanks for they speedy reply!!

Ithe pistons are diff I think I would if you really want get a diff detup out f a junkyard as for te header get a pacesetter or dc sports one. For a little more power for the 86 or 87 accords the lude si 84-87 ecu will swap right in

I debated to myself, should I buy a header, will it really offer me any noticable power or will it be a waste of money? Well now I can answer question's like your's this way. Buying a header for my car was worth every penny I paid. I got more mid range power and instead of the power dying off at 5700rpm's, I now made power all the way to readline. Not only that, because I had power to redline, it ment that when I shifted, I was in a better part of the powerband once I did shift. So I highly recommend a header, worth every single penny.

Umm i believe the heads is what caused the compression difference, but youre good cuz efi compression stayed the same, its just that carb compression is lower. The 88-89 had a 4-2-1 manifold and different A pipe, as well as the dual stage intake. I dont think the vacuum lines make a diff, or the ecu, just the intake and exaust manifolds. Ive heard of people converting manifolds but it sounds like a ton of work for only 10hp

all the heads are the same the difference is in the pistons tops.

Sean is right that's why I was going to buy new LX-i pistons and put them in my LX (so I will have a lower compression for nitrious)

The ecu makes a huge difference it has to controll the dual manifold an extra o2 sensor and the idle controll was changeds from vacume to resistance.

all LX's had the 4-1 manifold, the 86-89 LXIs did too, but the 88-89 LXis had a 4-2-1 manifold

right but switching ecus would be a freaking nightmare, but performance wise i doubt itd make a difference.

I was just thinking about that shit, so I guess it would be easier to get an 88-89 a20a3 than trying to convert my 87 a20a3 to the 89 specs. the 89 engine would fit right into my 87 lxi right?

Could someone tell me how much of a bitch it would be to swap the engine, I have never done it before and i have some "acquaintances" that I could probably get to maybe help me but I'm not sure. and does anyone know where I can get an 89 lxi engine with tranny for cheap because the one from nippon motors is $525 and I dont even think that is with a tranny. I would appreciate any help, thx.

LXi pistons would give you higher compression

I have heard that honda head gaskets are copper 3ply soooo get rid of 1 ply and you have higher compression its like decking the head by like 0.05 or so (cheap power)
