My 89 Coupe is missing some door panel clips and I'm having trouble finding replacements. The factory style is a black male plug in the door panel and then a female plug in the metal hole in the door itself. Some the male ends are missing or broken and the dealer says they're NLA. Will the newer style clips out of newer hondas work if I remove the female end from the door and just snap the new ones in to the hole like modern cars have?

I'm not familiar with the newer fasteners, but yeah. Whatever works. You can try it out and if it holds the panel on then all's well.

There's also this:

Actually ending up finding a website through another post that sells hard to find and discontinued fasteners like this. $5 for a bag of 2 which is half what the dealer would have charged so I bought 10.

Half the dealer price and still highway robbery.

I would suggest taking a trip to your next local car swap meet. I typically see a number of vendors sell generic body and interior clips that will work just fine.

^^^ I'll second that. Those clips aren't rocket science and anything that fits and holds will work. If I were in your shoes (and I have been), I would take one of your existing clips to the local parts store and see if you can match it up with something off-the-shelf that will work. You'll probably spend a whooooole lot less money and never notice the difference.
