So I put an ignition switch in my Accord and during the process I found this red wire spliced in to the blue/white wire from the ignition harness. Traced it back and it goes to this black box tucked back in behind the carpet. It looks like it maybe is supposed to mount somewhere but I can't figure it out. I didn't splice the red wire back and car cranks and runs fine. Anyone know what this box is and what the red wire is and why it might have been spliced in to my old ignition wire?

Is there a fuse in the little black box where does the other end of the wire go?

The red wire traces back in to a plug with like 8 other wires in to that black box. There is a fuse in the inline fuse block.

Where is the 8 wire plug located

I didn't get a good shot of it but the last photo there with the black box in the photos, the plug is at the top. You can kinda see the wires.

It's weird the way it's hooked up to the ignition switch looks like it was some kind of switched 12 volt power source

Yeah I'll get back to the car in a few hours and pull the carpet back some more and get some better shots of it and get back to you. Car cranks fine, all the electronics I could test work fine so I don't know what the box could be or why the wire was spliced.

I would go to the 8 wire plug and trace it back to see what it was powering

I believe the blue wire on your ignition switch is a 12-volt switch power source

okay so the car had a sunroof installed by the dealer when it was new. I actually just checked to see if it works. It does not anymore. So I'm assuming this is all sunroof stuff which explains why none of it looks to be factory. It worked fine before and now doesn't not so that's gotta be it

Tomorrow I'll take a battery with some test leads and apply power to that red wire that was spliced to the ignition and confirm

The Blue-White wire is a 12V power source on the II position on the ignition switch. It gives power to the fan motor (HVAC).

I hate those wire taps with a passion.
