my 88 accord lx sedan with 5 speed. it leaks all of its coolant out within a few minutes of warming up. i just replaced one hose and all the other ones look fine. it seems to be coming out from around the intake manifold or something. it poors out from around the oil pan. i hit a snow bank going maybe 15mph or so. my bumper fell of but thats it. im not sure if i could have knocked something loose

Are you sure the radiator isn't cracked?

If you think its from the intake manifold... then there are 3 coolant lines connected to it.
one is under the intake manifold and very small the other 2 are on opposite sides of the manifold and are like 5/8" I think.

i replaced one of the 5/8" ones. i got a half inch hose and made it fit for temperary use. and its not coming from my radiator at all.

well its not leaking from that hose. but i used the clamps that were on it

Did you check your water pump? The seal might be going causing the coolant to leak out the relief hole.

the water pump was replaced like 10000 miles ago. i'd like to think the seal wouldn't go that quickly

Well just run your hand over every hose join... you'll find it eventually... also did you bleed the coolant lines? you radiator can fill up but you still need to fill the block and water pipe and the intake manifold after you fixed a leaky hose...

I wouldn't reuse the old clamps.. the ones that came with the car will weaken after you remove them once... and you need a special tool to tighten it again.... buy the clamps that you screw to tighten.

well i didn't evev need them becaust the hose was a little smaller than its suppose to be

could be the pipe that runs underneath the intake from the pump to the hose, sometimes these pipes rust through at the joint between the pipe and the small tubes that feed the hoses that connect to the pipe

wow. ill have to check that. why not everything else on this car has rusted through. unfortuantly i can't fix this one with bondo

u can always fix things with duct-tape. run ur car when ur looking for coolent leaks. its probably one of the small hose that broke off. also, check near your thermostat assembly and see if its leaking from there. IF it is, then u need a new thermostat gasket.

I've seen coolant leaks from the plugs put in the block after casting (3 on the from and 3 on the back of our engines). That's probably worth a look. I think that they're not too expensive to fix if it is the problem.

fuck it. im just going to go to autozone and rent a pressure tester.

well it appears to be leaking out of the back of the water pump near the end of that metal pipe thing-a-ma-jiger

ahahahaha, i am right for the second time. hehehe, just kidding. Its always one of the non-braided hoses that tend to flop out.

no no i think he means the cooling distribution tube seal... right?

i have no idea what the thing is. i can barely see it. its the matal pipe thing that runs under the intake manifold. i forget where the other end goes. but if i ever decide to wake up and go out side today ill go look.

oooooooh. The one end near the crank, goes to your Water pump and the other end goes to the bottom of the radiator and right before that it splits to the heater core and the 'T' splitter. if its leakin from your water pump side, its probably the seal like u mentioned.

I think i did not guess the right thing again :(

well its what you described. do yo uknow how difficult it is to replace?

Man it has to be your water pump because i had this problem also after the car warms up water just starts to pour out of the water pump right onto the exhaust. check from underneath the car. its just a guess.

the water pump is less than a year old. it was purchased brand new and professionaly installed when my cousin owned the car.

I had two mysterious coolant leaks on my LX...

I put a new radiator cap on and "presto" everything was fixed.

I tried pulling mine out once and it wouldn't budge... I'm not sure how the pipe is held in other then a bolt under the intake manifold... I know the part its stuck on is apart of the block casting.

the end of the pipe has a rubber sealing ring on it....where it fits into the w/p...and like A20A1 said, about the bolt under the intake..........i've come across a couple that have rusted inside and perished the rubber causing leaks

when i did my efi conversion. i had to pull two of them off, one from my carb and the other from the efi. Do know that both of them are different for the efi and carb. anywwho. Its not hard to remove. What i did was. unbolted the 10mm on the middle of the pipe after removing the intake manifold. Then i turned the black pipe clockwise and counterclockwise to free up the gasket from the water pump. THen what i did was move it up and down or like back and forth as in trying to pull it out. THen took a crow bar, Put the sharp end on the left side (right side is water pump side) of the engine block and yanked it towars the left and the pipe came off. I would suggest that u clean it off pretty good and change the gasket on the gasket. mine was pretty much intact cause it was kinda new. So i did not have to replace it.

ok. it looks like its cracked but im not sure. how do you get to it. i know i can't stick my hands in there from above. and id prefer not to have to do anything from underneathe.

smufguy

like i said, U need to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Its all u need to remove besides the hoses that attach to it. WHen u have the manfild out, its a good time to clean the insides with carb cleaner. U will be amazed how much shit is stuck there. oh yeah you would also need a new intake manifold gasket. carb and efi are the same gasket if i am not mistaken. to remove the intake manifold go to my website here http://89accord.netfirms.com/eficonversion.htm scroll down and u would see how to remove the intake manifold.

TRY IT NOW DUDE, IT SHOULD WORK. i HAD A PERIOD AFTER THE HTM THATS WHY IT DID NOT WORK. SORRY.
