Or you can not risk your life by being a cheap ass and buy a real set of cross drilled rotors.

Much better insurance on not cracking a rotor and possible ruining your whole braking system.

I would trust our stock rotors with homemade cross drills if my life depended on it.

No one try this, unless you want to risk to much for a little better braking.

Nate.

im not condoing dfrilling stock rotors but thats all the companies that sell cross drilled rotors due is buy rotors from bendix or raybestous and drill them. however the pattern should be carefully studied and engineered.

I'm with Nate. The brakes are one of the few things you DO NOT mess with. They are your lifeline.

The rotors say they are for lx/dx, will those fit the lxi/sei. If not, what's the difference?

Thanks.

Like these!

Sorry, I couldn't resist :D Installing them on monday...w00t...

But yea, the DX, LX, and 86-87 LX-i all had smaller rotors than the 88-89 LX-i/SE-i, so they're not interchangable.

Personally I don't think I'd risk drilling my own rotors. I'd feel safer just buying some, and letting the guys that know alot more about that stuff do it, lol

the difference between DX/LX and LXi/SEI is that
DX/LX had smaller brakes in the front.
LXI/SEI had bigger rotors in the front. i have seen a few LXI with rear disk brakes.

I did that mod back in the 90's when drilled rotors were not available for our cars.

It lasted a good while but a few months later after some nice races, the rotors started to crack, little by little. Small little hairline cracks were showing up!
So, i then said fuck it! I just got some new rotors and got a good set of nissin pads, and felt safer.

Then, when the AEM big rotor upgrade came out, i fell in love! Started my research and ended up slapping them into my ride.

It can't get better than this ;)

I know your posting this as a cheap mod for your brakes, but i woudn't recommend others to do this. Let the pro's do it. Brembo is a good reputable company.

could i (with an 86 lxi) swap out to use the 88-89 lxi brakes, even if its just swapping the rotor? i hate my brakes, they feel like shit.. and i dont really feel safe all the time, so anything i can do to improve them would be nice!

You can't do the upgrade with just a rotor swap (would be nice I know;) ) markmdz89hatch did the upgrade to his car, sent him a pm to find out what parts you have to pull off the donor car.

I had the same problem that your talking about, I also found it was way to easy to warp the front rotors. But I did not want to hassle with the 88-89lxi front brake swap. So I purchase slotted/dimpled brembo's for $100 and went with EBC pads. Next to putting on Koni's (then the revalved Bilsteins) it was one of the best upgrade's I had done to the car. They handled everthing I could throw at them.

2 qustions jim

1) how much did it cost you to do the "whole" brake upgrade. and
2) do you still have the setup intact, and what would you want for it?

I order some cross drilled rotors do I just need new pads to go with them? and that's all?

I no longer have the disk's they got sold with everthing else in the first week (except the rims and tire's that you know I still have).

The rotor's only cost $100 for the pair, a steal considering that power slots cost $140 for the pair easy. The EBC greenstuff pads were $55, got them from tirerack.com . So my total cost was $155+ shipping. I later elected to install new front caliper's, which were really cheap to buy.

where did you buy the rotors and calipers from? that setup sounds like a worthy upgrade for meh! :)

I got them from a shop in LA that another member had purchased from (Infinityaudiolx I believe). He own did not have a web site at the time, and if he does now, I don't know the url. But here's how I got in touch with him First I emailed him, than I called him on the phone to order them. He's really nice, he does the slotting and dimpling himself.

The brake pads were purchased from tirerack and the caliper's were oem replacements from autozone.

It might have been me, but it was quite some time ago. Anyway, I've told him about 86-89accord site and he said he will charge the same price for everyone. $99 for front brembo rotors (slotted/dimpled/crossed drilled). But that was about 2 years ago. If he charges more than, then probably nothing I can do :D
Ask him about pbr/axiss mm pads. I think I bought those from him for $40.
