The pistons are different between the EFI and carb engines.

Are the EFI pistions higher or lower compression? You can swap the pistons into a carbed motor though.

88-89 EFI 9.3, 88-89 carb 9.1, 86-86 carb 8.8, 86-87 EFI 9.1(?)

The power gain for a stock piston swap would be tiny.

89Lxi4dr you got the last two mixed up

The carb compression did not change for the 4 years it remained 9.1:1.

The efi for 86-87 had 8.8:1 compression.

anyway, the blocks are the same despite minor changes, but it will bolt directy. The efi motor would fit perfectly in the carb car. BUt do know that if ur looking for efi conversion, its better u change the whole engine from the efi to your car to get some power gains, if not u will be problem free, but still have the almost same power as ur carb.

Also to note that, you cannot bore out the A20 motor cause its just not worth it and also being cast iron.
