The choke on my 88 Accord closes automatically when the gas is hit. If i open the coke manually it idles down and the egr starts working and it stays at a steady idle. but as soon as the gas pedal is hit the choke shuts fully and won't open. Any advice helps

Most likely the vacuum diaphragm in the choke puller has failed. Also check the choke heater.
Another less likely would be the crank leak solenoid. Follow the vacuum tube from the choke puller to the black box. Cap that line at the choke puller to test. (...if you don't have a vacuum gauge)

I agree with the first suggestion above. Probably diaphragm. If it's warm where you stay, I say disabled the choke. When I was on stock carb I disabled the choke and even in winter and started right up no problem.

Better solution, get a Weber ;)
