88 LX tail lights out

The other day, get stopped and was told the tail lights were out. They worked before and now out. Tried fuses and bulbs are working. So far fuses and brakes, hazards all work. Just not running lights. I hope it's not the dimmer switch. Rockauto has it for 245$ !!! Any other ideas to check or can a license plate bulb being out cause this? Will try for power while lights are on. Any other ideas would be helpful.

After trouble shooting found out it was 2 wires that was crimped had pulled out where the old Excalibur alarm had been wired in. So now just need to recrimp and good to go
