Hi everyone,

Today Paul was involved in a rear end accident in his Aerodeck. Luckily Paul escaped without a scratch, but the good old Aerodeck too a lot of damage. :crying: A comlete account of the accident is available at

Paul's Page (http://www.pauldesign.ru/honda/)

This is one of my favorite cars out of the 3geez bunch for its originality and uniqueness. I seriously hope that Paul restores it to its original beauty and grace.

Pictures will be available shortly. :(

Yes, I am glad you are ok. It is never good, these accidents.

ON a more happy note, I love how Paul details in fine wording the situation! (despite the occasional misuse of prepositions... i know i know.. i dont' expect perfection either since i'm sure he doesn't speak english natively ).

How do accidents work in different countries? this is an interesting topic.

Yeah its good youre ok, is the car driveable or are the control arms and stuff moved around? I know what you mean about financial situations... Im taking a 3rd shift job and gonna work full time even with full time school... we will see how it goes in the weeks to come.

Damn, that sucks, at least you dont have any injuries. The car can always by replaced, but I know, its hard to even think of parting with it.

Sorry to hear about the Accord. I'm glad to hear that you escaped safely. I just recently took a traffic school course (because of a speeding ticket) and they had some rather depressing stories about people killed or injured even in low speed accidents.

If you are planning on selling any parts, I am interested in your Hella HID components. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the kind of person to take advantage of somebody's misfortune. I think it's terrible that you were involved in an accident, and glad that you are unharmed.

A quote from Paul's account:

Right now I am more worried about causing unwanted hassles for the owner of the Peugeot.
That's a really cool attitude, Paul. With a positive vibe like that, I believe your sky will turn blue again soon. Glad no one was hurt! I'm looking forward to hearing your plans for the re-birth of the Aerodeck!

Paul creates very good articles in russian but translation to english is often an issue. All of the articles in the past month were translated to english by yours trully :D:). [visit the now fully english article on the race between the BMW vs. Prelude!]

As for more detailed information on damage, no details have been available from Paul yet. However he already got the replacement parts for the Peugeot so he is trying to get this over with. From what I heard from Paul, the front metal is crumpled beyond straightening and needs total replacement (on first inspection). Under the hood, the damage is still uncertain but Paul drove the Aerodeck all the way to the shop after the accident without any problems. Most probable damage would be the radiator being shoved back. Unfortunately in Russia, the idea of junk yards is non-existent. In addition, cars like Paul's are rare and not very economical due to parts availability so parts are hard to come by.

Paul and me believe that the reason of the accident lies in the ABS braking system. The ABS has been acting up for some time and the day before the accident Paul took the Aerodeck in for a check up. However, the shop was unable to perform the operation that day so it was delayed. The next day the ABS started acting up at 30km/h (~20 mph) and the unfortunate happened. :(

Accident handling in russia:

The russian road laws do not require the motorist to have insurance. Therefore, all financial problems are generally decided on a person to person basis after the occurrence of the accident. Road authorities will participate in the aftermath in a fashion similar to the way it is done in US.

Well I'm glad that paul is ok. I certainly know first hand what it's like to be involved in a accident with your accord. Hopefully he will have the will to restore his car to it's original glory. And hopefully that will be mechanically possible. Best of luck to him.

Sorry to hear about Paul. As long as he got out of it unscathed, that is all that matters. I would assume that once he gets things sorted out, he will give us a personal update, along with pics.

SOrry paul. But dotn worry man, no matter what, we know u will bring the car back. ITs amazing how u got ABS on ur 3g and we dont, but its also amazing how the ABS failed. Sucks there is no insurance. Good luck with everything buddy.

smufguy,

Some European and Japanese 3geez came with ABS. Honda calls it the ALB system. If you look in the shop manual under "Brakes" you will see the layout for the two different systems (ABS/non-ABS).

yeah i always wondered how it looked actually on a car. I knew that it existed, but i never heard anyone say anything about it on the board. Seems like paul is the only one so far i know have it.

If this is not gonna be disrespectful can i ask something? Can u like take pictures of his car? Also his engine and abs and stuff like that would be nice. I wanna see how bad his car got messed up.

Thanks guys for supporing me!
I will try to make photos as soon as possible. I can't do it right now, because my car is located in garage about 7 km from me... And without car i can't go to it.

Only Paul has the ability to take pictures of his car since I am 3000 miles away from Moscow. Besides, Paul makes pictures of proffessional quality whereas I make pictures of an average digi cam quality.

although i come from a strong russian decent... the only word i am familiar with is "stolat"... not even sure it's the right word for what i use it for.. like a toast or something. glad you're okay, the aerodeck can wait, time is not of the essence.

Your car looked just like mine with the hood and ones side of the fender tip bent. Except that your bumper took a little more punishment. Is your radiator and/or condensor cracked because of the accident? Whats your plan with your Aerodeck?

Hello everyone,

Gonna do a small update for Paul. He just recently got all the parts shipped in from Europe. He basically bought a basic version of an Aerodeck in Europe and got the parts from it. After he took the pictures, the front bumper and one of the fenders was removed. As Paul told me the bumper actually cracked into two parts under the license plate. This seems to be all that has been done to the car so far. By the way, does anyone know where the sunroof drainage holes are for the Aerodeck? Paul's S/F is leaking and we are trying to find a way to fix that.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. :D
