Short answer is yes. But it's a lot more complicated than you're thinking. The ECU will swap over easily, but to get codes, you'd have to swap from the carb to FI and that's a WHOLE lot of work.

carb "ecu" doesnt throw codes like the FI one does.
The ecu in a carb car doesn't do much but control some emissions functions.
The only one that ever acted like an FI ecu is the 3g Prelude PGM-Carb setup they used for like 2 years I think.

My LX has that too. Pretty much a case of using the same parts for all models as a cost savings measure.
I've quite literally disconnected every function that the ecu in mine controls and it does nothing.

Since you here what can cause the camshaft pulley not to turn?

Not anything good... what do you mean? Does the engine run?

Jayturnt

No engine does not run it lost power about two weeks ago i checked fuel then dizzy and noticed the rotor wasnt turning so i took timing belt top cover off and cranked it to see if it spins and it doesnt

Just worried if you cranked it with the crankshaft spinning but the cam not... ouch to your valves..

Jayturnt

What if the crankshaft doesnt spin at all ?

Oil in the engine? Not that it would particularly matter after the fact if engine seized up but if no oil in that thing.. could be bad news. Otherwise should be able to getta ratchet on the bolt and turn it relatively easy with some leverage if needed

Yes there is oil but steady oil light when i turn key and cam pulley moves just cant get the harmonic balancer bolt off

How can i check pressure if cars not running

I see... cars not running...didnt know that..

So when you " turn key" does it attempt to crank? long ended ratchet/ with extension, a bit a muscle may be required when tryna turn over the engine... but at this point, not sure if ur just tryna take the bolt off or verify that it spins

Jayturnt

Take bolt off to take bottom cover off to check crankshaft and belt because when crank engine the camshaft wasnt turning rotor to transfer spark

If you can manually turn it by hand turn it until the timing marks are visble on front of engine. Put a pry bar against the timing mark indicator thingy on the flywheel in the hole on the front of the engine.. then get the ratchet with extension, over the bolt and slide a pipe ( can use a hydraulic jack pipe) over the ratchet and turn, use prybar against the timing mark indicator with other hand if you can reach to counteract the force of the turn and that should give you enough leverage to pop the bolt off. Thats how i did it. Id use some pb blaster too

Check it. Urs might have a rubber cover over it

Its to the right of the distributor a little.. in between the the distributor and left part of cylinder head.. youll have to turn over manually to see the timing marks where you can wedge a pry bar. Basically its to the left of cylinder 4

Ok do i need a light

Shouldnt need any kind of light unless its at night... youll know when you see it..just keep turning the engine.. in increments cuz sometimes its easy to turn past it. its not showin in my pic but its definitely on the flywheel.. hopefullynur 86 dx iss no different than my 88 lxi... if you have an automatic

Jayturnt
09-22-2018, 11:59 AM
Yes automatic and im waiting for assistan now so i can look while they turn

Just turned my engine over.. basically turn till you see this, put a pry bar under neath the tab which will counteract engine from turning while you or assistant ratchets bolt off.

Will be hard but use a pipe over the rachet and itll be much easier
