Here I am sitting here with a boxed up eBay aftermarket unit that I'm getting ready to return. I'm looking At other aftermarket options but for some reason they all seem the same variation. Went to the junkyard today and the distributor was the only thing missing from the accord they had smh.

Do I keep current distributor or are there any better aftermarket brands?

Here is the one i have

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Ignition-Distributor-for-86-89-Honda-Accord-LXI-A20A3-85-87-Honda-Prelude-Si/321073949289?fits=Year%3A1988%7CModel%3AAccord%7CS ubmodel%3ALXi%7CMake%3AHonda&hash=item4ac17faa69:g:8k8AAMXQOQdRH0wy

Reason why I'm returning it is because I can't properly time the Ignition. Won't time to spec and distributor is as advanced as it will turn. Physically. Engine itself is properly timed

Frankly that is part of the reason I am going EDIS.
Parts are getting ungodly scarce and what you can get is made in china crap that doesn't work right or is out of spec.
At least with the EDIS setup, I'll have a fully programmable ignition and parts are super cheap and available.

Not too sure whats wrong with the distributor honestly.. cant properly time this shit to the red line on the fly wheel and cant advance / turn the distributor any further..same issue as the " is this ignition timing too dangerous thread " aftermarket junk.. luckily picked one up from another junk yard for 26 bucks. Ill see how this one works

EDIS, how hard , how difficult? When are you going to do it? Id love for you to make a video on it

Waiting on the ring gear to come in right now. Just have to fab up a way to mount it to the crank pulley. Then it's just collecting parts off a Ford Escort and buying a Megajolt unit, some wiring and away we go.
Goal right now is to just get the gear mounted whilst the engine is out and access to it is easy. I'll end up putting the engine back in with the distributor until I can get the cash free'd up to get the rest of the parts. Plus I'm dumping cash into the 5 speed swap and suspension work atm.
Probably wont be done until the spring unless the distributor bites it forcing my hand.

EDIS is cheap way to retrofit a distributor-less ignition onto your old motor. Aftermarket suppliers like MSD sell kits for this purpose, that come with perfectly machined parts, extensive instructions, self-learning controllers and tech lines manned by experts who don't have foreign accents. No one offers a kit for our cars, so EDIS is a way of doing it yourself the hard way. You'll have to do everything yourself from finding a way to mount the trigger wheel, to creating your own fuel maps, to figuring out what's wrong when it doesn't work. It's about the hardest way to do it.

The benefits are well worth it, but be ready for a lot of research and a lot of custom work.

Trigger-wheels.com sells a complete kit. They mostly deal with MGs and the like but you can customize a kit through them.
Mapping the ignition will be the hardest part of it all imo. At least I'm carbed and wont have to worry about fuel maps.
...and finding a plug to block off the dizzy hole... lol

What is the part number or link for the kit? Im interested in how you mount the wheel..

Dr, is your car EDIS?

Yeah I've had no luck with remanufactured distributors. I recommend find a good used OEM One. That's one of the reasons I converted to OBD1 electronic over vacuum advance.

i found that a plastic TEC vacuum advance retrofitted to a new aftermarket distributor allows me to time with precision and relative ease. I need to run more tests but it would still be nice to go EDIS. As AC439 pointed at that metal vacuum advance that comes on the unit is suspect

No EDIS on my car. I looked into it but I just don't have the time to figure it all out.

Since we're on the topic, the Lazy Overhaul is probably a good maintenance practice for keeping your old dizzie working well.

I may consider it but the new aftermarket distributor seems to work well with a tec vacuum advance

I mostly just want it cause I have issues with vacuum signal pulsing which screws with my timing. The alternative is to tap each intake runner and run them into a box then run the advance signal off that.
