I would like for any of the more experienced to please help out. I need to verify the timing on my 87 Accord and everything I've looked at requires that the car is placed in 2nd gear (automatic) with the e-brake on and a form of chock placed in front of the wheels..... Please, tell me this is not the preferred method to verify the timing on a car....

I never heard of that.....
redneck timing one guy powerbraked the car the other set to distributor until it pinged then back it off a notch. I hope that's not written any where in any manual.
You might be thinking of the idle check in gear.
